Vancouver Saltchuck?

I was out from 11 till dark today and it was pretty slow. Fished the bell, out to the QA, back to the bell, then pulled up and tried West Van. Caught a couple of wild coho and a barely undersized Spring. There were a few fish caught, but not many for the boats out there. Turned into a great afternoon weather-wise though!

Out again Friday night with spoons and bait. Hooked a big Chinook and playing it for 10 mins, then A%&hole dinner cruise boats comes right over and runs over my line. I loose gear , fish and my temper. Pull gear and chase after it yelling at captain. Captain said "I did not see you"?????? Told him he was a really good captain.

Got the lines back in the water and soon enough another large Chinook on, both fish on anchovy. Played it for 15 minutes right to boat, see it and almost ready to net it, then takes off on giant run. Keeps going and going. See big seal pop up 200 yards away with my fish in its mouth!! More anger!!. Fight it and finally get the lower jaw back with my hook well embedded. Dropped the lines for last chance but nothing. Lots of excitement, no fish. Thats just the way fishing goes sometimes. This rain will send them up the river I think.

Out sunday with my son, had 4 undersize, 1 flounder, 1 chowder hound and 1 commercial crab trap that will for ever stay on the ocean floor, did i mention the crab boat was an idiot to set traps in the middle of 60 boats.
Has so many hits and big strikes that i was through my bait in 2 hours. Did see a few pulled in and heard the guides chatter about a few. Even heard a guy took a very large spring on a red hoochie--- go figure.

I've hooked some big fish with sockeye gear.

Ditto, hooked many, many, big springs on pink, red, orange, and gold mini plankton hoochies. One of my favorite spring lures, not just for sockeye.

Where are you guys fishing? West Van, Van. harbour, river mouth? I thought I would try and get out tomorrow afternoon if the weather doesn't look to bad.

It has slowed down..this morning was pretty quiet..and not a whole lot was going on...at least from what I heard. Most of the guys I think were fishing those spots...I have been doing well off the T10 around the slack tides---and I haven't been having the dogfish problem many are reporting....and there isn't as much traffic as the Bell.

Pick a spot and get out fishing..I don't think you can go wrong with anywhere right now. The rains and weather change have moved the fish and/or put them off.

I have been fishing Wes van, pink apartment to cap river. 50 to 90 ft depth, down riggers at 45 to 65 ft. Both bait and spoons, glo green and flamin hans. I troll about 3 knots aroung the incoming and high slack tides. Getting pinks and chinooks, no coho so far. Watch the other boats, and your sounder for bait balls. Sharp hooks

Has anybody being out in the last few days or heard of any loacal reports. We are heading out Friday afternoon. I am wondering if the rains have changed anything in the Vancouver harbour area. Thanks

Talked to census taker at Vanier ramp tonight, he said he checked five boats fishing the North shore this afternoon. No fish for any of the boats fishing the harbour. I only managed a Coho and a Sockeye on the weekend. I've got a feeling the rain might have sent a bunch up river. Who knows maybe it's going to bring a bunch in, bit late for me if it does. Off to the Island for a nice long holiday, I think the fishing will be a wee bit better over there. :)

I was out Tuesday day and Wednesday afternoon. Sad to say I had no luck either day! I must have released about a dozen grilse over the two days. Tuesday I fished from T10 down to Sand Heads, hung out at Sandheads for a couple of hours with a half dozen or so other boats and didn't see anything boated there. Moved to the bell buoy for a couple more hours and I saw 1 boated later in the day, nothing of size. I heard over the radio that a couple were caught, I think Point Grey area.
On Wednesday I tried West Van area but gave up in frustration due to I was fishing by myself and I was having trouble with seaweed, currents, chop etc. Moved over to Point Grey for the evening bite. Kept picking up the shakers. Became annoying after a while. You didn't even know they were on the line. Gotta admit, I need a fish soon. Starting to lose faith. Didn't see any caught around the Point
Grey area. Beautiful flat calm night

i think it will pck up again soon.. there always seem to be big fish out there into september

Yes it should pick up considerably very soon. The Pinks should be arriving in great numbers along with the springs and coho. I was just talking about maybe a few days lull after the heavy rains we had.

Thanks for the updates. I will be out for the afternoon and evening friday. I let you know how it goes.

I am off to port renfrew next week too, heard it was very good there last week.

Eastpoint,

Went out to the sandheads tonight....... sighhhhh, nothing, A large amount of seals out tonight and they followed the boat all night waiting. Only 3 boats out and nothing from them either
