Any one know when or why they started locking the McDonald beach launch at night?
Sat morning I was there at 5:00 and it was locked ,usually you just push the gate open if your the first one there...says open at 6:00 but I was to impatient to wait and see.
sucks because Vanier's unusable for a portion of the tide...really have to plan the in and out.

Was it actually locked ? Usualy its dummy locked with the chain kind of in a knot.

yup locked, I fiddled with it for a while.
When I backed out to leave another guy came so I waited, he did the same thing.

Maybe they changed caretaker or they are on holiday. We have known the guy for years and he is great.

Have I got a story for you! Me and the missus came in at 9 p.m. on Monday night July 27. It was a beautiful warm evening. I go to get the trailer and the caretaker is giving me a hard time about the gate being closed at 9 blah blah blah. The guy looks familiar but younger than the guy I'm used to seeing out there. I think it is the son of the regular guy. The regular guy is a great guy who doesn't get bent out of shape about locking the gate. There were a number of other people in there still that he was chasing out. He even drove his car over to one area to honk his horn at people to chase them out. So I'm at the gate now and there are two cars ahead of me waiting to get out but can't because the gate is locked! So there the 3 of us are sitting waiting for this yo-yo to show up to unlock the gate. We wait 5-10 minutes before he shows up to unlock the gate. I have a van load of tools and I was going to get my hacksaw out soon!!
So to answer your question it probably is 9 p.m. But it changes as the days get shorter

Not far off (south) from the T10 was quite good this morning....no complaints! :) Don't be afraid to wander.

Summer Run Chinooks coming in right now..

:D:D

You must have horseshoes. :)

More time on the water= MORE FISH in the cooler.

Put 'em on ice!

;)

You are right, I haven't caught a fish on the construction site yet. :)

West Van was slow this afternoon and the current was a real pain.
A seal took my anchovie by the pink apartment and I wanted my flasher back so I fought with the thing all the way to the QB marker. After 45 minutes the line finally broke and I realized what a workout my arm got.
I went over to the bell boy at about 6:30, lost one there, then hooked into another that almost spooled me. I panicked seeing that almost all my line was gone, tightened up to much and lost a heavy one. :(
Even though I didn't boat any fish it was an awsome day!

Fished the south arm and the T10 from about 3:30 to 8 or so...1 hit and some shakers. Pretty snotty out there with the wind and the current.
Man do I need to boat a fish...I am 0 for 3, 1 seal on a nice one and two heavy fish that came unbuttoned. Hooks are sticky sharp bait looks good jsut need more time I guess as FM says.

I must say though that I am very impressed with the Striper...It is everything I hoped for. Runs great and performs excellent in all waters.
Now it just needs a little more blood in 'er

I heard from a reliable source that the police told the caretaker to keep the gate locked from 9 till 5 because of too many late night dealings going on down there, with boats being involved. He tries to have it open for 5 is the word.

Was out there tonight after work and just got in off the water. Hit 3 big fish down south......two of which I saw which were in the Tyee class but came off. Ended up boating 1 fish in the mid teens.

A 44 lber was caught today...that was all over the radio.....along with a couple of other Tyees.

As we were rounding the North Arm on the way back we came across a pod of about 8 Killer Whales and they were headed for the harbour...not a good sign.

Heard that the Cap was kicking out several fish.

Things are looking up.

Make sure you're dressed for the weather...the coolish breeze makes it feel like it is mid September..

I'm heading out this AM. Any reports from yesterday? Hope those whales were just passing through...

There were a lot of boats out Saturday a.m.

I spent the first hour at the Cap (nothing), the next half hour at the QB (one good hit and two undersized) and then spent three productive hours at the Bell Buoy (two keepers; and, four sockeyes and undersized released).

The keepers were caught on anchovies (cop car chrome teaser heads) at 66 ft and 70ft and did a good job of both keeping me busy (out by myself yesterday) and of christening the big Yeti cooler my wife had bought for me.

All in all, a great morning.
