2024 Sidney Reports

Ran out for low slack today, had a fish on right away that looked to be around 10-12 lbs came off 30' behind the boat but I was forcing it, then a better fish on the next pass over the same spot. A nice mature white 79cm came home with me. Beauty day out there with a decent number of boats enjoying it. Saw the new Netminder for the first time in the water, very sweet ride

Fished the tail end of the slack last night. Double header of keepers on the 2nd pass at Wymond. Landed both and kept the bigger one for dinner that was around 10 lbs. Lots of bait around and fish had tiny needlefish in the stomach. Red/gold flasher and gold nugget coho killer.

Where were you fishing?

Yes, that was me. Like Reel Gone, we ran out for the low slack at and fished from about 9:30 - 11:30. Hit two cookie cutter hatchery Springs about 11 pounds each (72 cm). AP needlefish spoon and glow purple hootchie did the trick.

I was getting them on spoons but more short and stubby. Either skinny g or small g force. Pure needle fish type ones were not working as well. Found them close to bottom

What's working? We just fished Hamley without a sniff on ap spoons and cop car wee Gee. Thanks

We got one undersized on a skinny g bon chovy then nothing again. Around 10:30

Was it better in the morning?

We were aiming for the low tide, tons of boats out.

I only saw one boat net one at the same location we got the undersized. South point of hamley off the reef.

Same, saw one nice spring netted at Halley. I'm finishing my day at the powder Warf without a sniff. Crabbing was good. Thanks @Reel Gone and @Robinrjk hope you get out again soon.

A couple of reports. Fished on Sunday at Hamley from 10:30 - 12:30 amongst the fleet. No bites. Seemed slower but did notice a few nets out. Tried Moresby today from 11:00 - 1:30 and picked up 3 cookie cutter unclipped Springs - all between 72 and 75 cm. We were fishing anchovies, spoons, and a glow white hootchie. The hootchie got all 3 fish. Caught them fairly deep between 120' and 140'

Haha. Excellent. Was just going to post that the evening tide was dead at moresby. Just an undersize for us. It’s been Intersting as usually im at sandheads in sept. First time hanging around SGI this time of year. It’s like learning a new thing. Kinda fun. Appreciate the reports.

I have found that the northeast side of Moresby tends to be more productive during an ebb tide as the bait gets pushed up against that shore. Just like the Pender bluffs (directly across the channel) were more productive on a flood tide.

I have not tried trolling at Morseby but when we went to jig there I always saw people trolling the south tip. @carpeweekend are you talking about going over to the section where that field is mid way on the island to the north east?

Thank you
