Just got back from that washing machine out in the harbor and east and south Bowen. Those greedy chinook should not keep taking the coho gear. My partner estimated one we released was around 24 pounds. Seven keepers in the crab traps and now back at the dock. No hatchery coho though.

So what were the conditions like, and how do they compare to Env. Canada buoy data vs. The sportyfish? App?

It sucked out there . Came from the north arm to gambier around 4 pm and it wasn’t fun.

Moderate waves, maybe 2 feet as I approach south Bowen. More so than it appears on the photograph. Vancouver in the background. Pretty hard to beat. Two good size Chinook released so far, no signs of coho yet.

Just passed Bell Buoy: harbour was very lumpy. Choppy in the Strait. Crossing over, but not quickly.

It was gnarly. Out by Roger Curtis now. Headed up. Hit a few all near surface. Nothing to keep. Water is flatter now. And sunny!

Conditions are great now, not too cold and not too wavy. Small chop. Tried multiple spots, couldn’t stay away from the chinook must have hooked at least 10 smaller ones and 6-7 teenagers. All gaff released by the boat as soon as identified as chinook. Limits of crab for 2. Overall a nice day still no signs of coho.

Final result was one hatchery coho and one wild. Other species were around though. Fished above 50'. And most fish came above 30'. Fishinator and Mag Lip. Flat lined or Dipsy Diver.

Yep, the weather and chop improved over the day. Lost a nice Lingcod, caught a keeper Lingcod; hatchery coho limits for 2; crab limits for 2 (had to throw some keepers back and only had 2 traps); released a bunch of different fish. Saw several grey whales. Saw several orcas off bell buoy; quite the show… pretty close to us! Coyote at Vanier prancing around like he owned the place. Great day!

Yes; should have mentioned that. Also, took a while to find the coho, and to hone in on the hatchery coho vs the wild ones: found the wild coho relatively deep at 90-125’… and they were not picky… green and chartreuse glow/uv flashers, skinny g no bananas and a uv hoochy both did well. Medium swim bait in purple/blue got the best ling bites.

I've never heard of different depths for coho....if the wilds were at 90-125 where were the hatcheries? You're talking about downrigger numbers?

Coast Guard was in attendance when I was there, but they have left. I got in quite close and reminded them that the tides coming in and they should be free in a couple of hours and to just enjoy the morning.
