2025 Nanaimo Reports

Yeah on the smaller size. One was real small but the other 2 were keeper size to me…..4-5 lbs. my favorite eaters
Those are a great size - the ones I released were 2 lbs or less. Looks good for June 1 then.

OMMERCIAL - Invertebrates: Prawn and Shrimp by Trap
Subject:
FN0417-COMMERCIAL - Prawn and Shrimp by Trap - South Coast / Fraser River - Areas 11 to 29, 111, 121, 123 to 127 - Season Opening May 14, 2025

Got out this evening for a few hours. Dropped prawn traps and went to look for lings. Found some crazy bait balls at Snake Island and got one ling cod. Also got 3 10-14lbs springs while jigging, released those. Couple hits on the swim baits. Buddy had a large spring follow his swim bait right to the boat. Prawning sucked big time. Only 1 prawn and an old chunk of rope that had crap growing on it. Water seemed quite murky.

Beautiful evening. Flat calm.

I got a chinook on a swim bait fishing for lings too. Nice one too. Hooked cleanly through the nose so was a quick in water release and I think not too much damage. We found one keeper ling. Different spot than you guys, but we did bomb over to Snake at the end of the night to try our luck there. Of which we had none.

Did you guys come and try the entrance side of Snake? We were on that side

We came over around 7:30, fished the top end (East side) first, then tried a little bit on the steep shelves on the north side. Not even a sniff in either area but didn't try for very long. We were in the Arima with the aluminum skip top.

Fished off Gabriola last night for the last couple hours before dark. A few Chinook to keep us entertained, but no coho

Fished off the fingers for a few hours last night. Released a nice 10 pound spring and some smaller springs. Lost a coho on the surface and had some hits which felt like coho. Tried my R3EF reel for the first time. It felt great, a little smoother then the trophies.
