2024 OFFISHALL Vancouver-Howe Sound-Sechelt Reports Thread

Was at Sandheads today 10am through to 3. Between tides but steady action most of that time. The weather was a bit **** but still fresh fish a plenty. Also a big dark toothy chum.
Trolled toward t10 after that and had a double header north of Sandheads around slack tide with a full on screaming reel well before we could get it out of the holder. (I love it when that happens!)
I didn’t reel in a single fish but fun to watch an Albertan who has never fished this way before experience what we have here.

Just a recommendation- I have no idea why DFO has not closed Chum retention given the poor returns and escapements the past few years. Please consider releasing any Chum which you bring to the boat this year. Given the stock status there is truly more value in that fish making it to spawn than being bonked and tossed into your smoker right now.

Didn’t they close Chum roughly mid August?

I agree about letting chum swim free...but as far as I can see chum are closed to retention anyway:

They are closed see FN 0781.
Yep. Chum is the new sockeye. As if gill netting off the mouth of the Harrison wasn’t enough, we had the major flood in the valley that swept the eggs down the river beds. This year’s run is expected to be very fragile and the same for the next cycle.

Sorry, back to the reports. Anyone out this morning? Seems like just a southerly breeze at SH.

was he wearing camo? up my way we know they are Albertans because they wear camo even on the boat

Took my shot for a quick few laps at the crap, and it did not disappoint! Total and complete shut out which was probably for the best as my buddy got mixed up after work yesterday so he was beyond hungover and slept most of the day in the cuddy!

I figure I have one or two more runs out south before I haul out for winter next weekend. Been an amazing season! 🍻

Cap that bad eh? Haven’t seen reports but just figured everyone was at SH.
I got a couple guys with bad sea legs tomorrow so we’ll skip the expected heavy slop out in the open, and give the Cap a shot
