Vancouver Saltchuck?

Fished the point grey bell from 2 til 6pm today. One bite, one 10lb spring. At least I didn't have to deal with a bunch of shakers...well 2 shakers.

Anybody know what is going on? I have a buddy that has been on the hook in Cowards for the last few days and he says it has been spotty but he has mainly been fishing in the harbour...couple of springs and some pinks.

Will be out on Friday afternoon for the tide and again on Sat...i will post.

From the T10 to Vancouver Harbour....

Nothing is going on. It's very very slow out there. A couple of dirty pinks. Yesterday there were maybe 4 decent springs hooked at the Bell Buoy all day...and I mean ALL day for a lot of boats.

If you caught a decent spring over the last 2 days in this area---it didn't have anything to do with skill---it had to do how much time you put in and if you happened across one by blind luck.

The Killer Whale show Tuesday night cleaned the Fraser mouth to the Harbour---nothing anywhere.

Not to say you are wrong FM , not at all , as it was pretty slow for most guys I talked to but I had a pretty decent day with 5 hits . Luck , I guess. Two were Pink on a double , lost one and 3 other hits from chinook, 2 landed . This was Vancouver Harbour . I did put in time but not all day- 8:30 to 2:30. It was a nice "first trip" back from Bamfield. And I didn't even need to go offshore !!! All fish were from outer harbour yesterday.

Oh? What boat were you on? I was fishing right there during that time and a couple of other boats I was talking to out there said there was nothing out there. Congrats on the 3 Chinook hits-- you outfished everyone--including all the charter boats that were out there.

In the main page that shows "Vancouver area report" section I see that you ( FM ) responded again ( as last responder) this morning at 11:12:08 but when I go into the last page of that forum, your entry doesn't show up ....even with a refresh, its not there . Hmmm, I saw this once before, maybe the site has the odd problem with this ...

Ok , now it popped in there. No worries.

Thx FM , yeah I felt pretty lucky - my second chinook landed ( and another hit) was out in the middle between atkinson and Bell. My first fish was very close off the bow of the frieghter near 1st mile marker ...I mean very close to the bow , like 50 ft. Scott on Mongoose had come up there because I called him (on our private channel) ...saw school in there and bang , Scott was right beside me and fish almost went under his boat. Scott picked one up one a few min later just west of that frieghter ....but heard of little other action.

So Peahead did your fish and Scott's have anything to do with SKILL or was there NO SKILL involved in your catch? There is luck and then there is SKILL - that's why you hire a GUIDE if you really want the BEST chance at hooking fish!

Hi BigHog, How are you doing ? PM me anytime as we really don't need to chat here....
As far as luck vs skill ? ....Thats a great question !!! Maybe this should be a new forum topic ?

Well firstly, I try to be modest about fishing success as I feel thats more professional. After all, I am a BCSFGA member so one of the organizations mandates is obviously for members to act in a professional manner. If someone says catching a fish is luck, well, I just keep quiet as its an arguement I don't want to enter. Luck does play a secondary part some days...and so does bad luck! :-(

The answer is easy....SKILL is by far the most important, but LUCK plays a secondary part in some situations. For example if you had 20 equally experienced guides out fishing the same area one morning and only 1 fish was caught, what's the answer ? Luck? the fish was caught or skill? Skill played equall part in all 10 guides so perhaps you could say that beyond the obvious skill that each guide has, only one guide that morning also had some luck on his side ( where as the others didn't have that luck).

I guess I should also admit to FM that I do have several years of guiding experience so I do have more skill and experience than most weekend warriors.....what makes you skilled at catching is a passion/obsession for fishing and being maticulous about every detail. Also practice makes perfect so being out ALOT is very important to gain experience and knowledge of whats going on what works in any given area at any given time. I know Scott is a very skilled giude and he got at least one fish yesterday and often does even when its slow fishing. So of all the chinook caught yesterday guides got most or all of them. ......so BIGHOG does have a valid point.

ssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllooooooooooooooooooooooooooooowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww

that's how one guy summed today up on the radio.

I think you guys are way too funny

im thinking you are all a buch of totally obsessed wack jobs like me...a bunch of guy's that cant get enough of foolin' big fish...of coaxing that bite and having a little luck when the others get bunk all...yeah we all want to catch fish...yeah we want to see the other guy put a fish in his boat.

But nailing fish when no one else is, when the fish are there and every one is working...but some happen to know how to work a little harder, have a little more luck, pull out knife while the others aren't...that is why I fish.

I fish to learn to fish. I fish to put one in the boat...I fish to take out that guy that has gone salmon fishing once and never caught a fish and hope I have a little luck and a little skill.

I KNOW it is 10% of fisherman that catch 90% of the fish...that is real.

Alls is I can say is that I am talking to a lot of the 90%

Man do I need to boat a spring!!!!

Getbent

that is the difference between
