I've seen it. I really don't care how fast it goes, I care about it ripping in half. Not sure if you seen this, If you search twin 350 verados on you tube, there is a video of him at full throttle,

I think there might be structural issues raincity is referring to also, the boat might need some love from RonIn the river I was told not to use stainless steel props, better for the prop to break then then leg to sheer off
Yes I believe so, Wow
I've seen that commander for sale and the price drops, just curious why you and raincity feel it could have structural issues?I think there might be structural issues raincity is referring to also, the boat might need some love from Ron
I am just speculating, that commander is a beauty,I've seen that commander for sale and the price drops, just curious why you and raincity feel it could have structural issues?
PS killer build ,what an effort!
50K price drop might not be crazy if it was 50K overpriced to begin with though.I am just speculating, that commander is a beauty,
50k price drop is crazy…
Can’t speak for raincity, but I would be nervous buying a podded boat, especially a 15000lbs 700hp beast. The transoms structural integrity would be my question mark, and also how the transom is connected to the hull.
With my boat I want to be sure that if I hit something I rip my leg off and not my boat in half. Its like having peace of mind. You don’t want to be worrying if your boat is going to fall apart… you need to know it won’t. My peace of mind comes when I do things myself, this way I know. I’m sure a good survey would find any issues, but glass is so easy to cover up, and looking at my last survey on this commander I have, they missed a few things, including a major fuel leak.
True… man that’s a beautiful boat, he has that thing done out50K price drop might not be crazy if it was 50K overpriced to begin with though.
Nice thing is he has everything there if the pod is good, it can all be taken apart and inspected and reinforced. No a cheap job but if you aren’t paying 190k for it, it would be easier to swallow. I don’t like the loose noco charger on the floor, makes me wonder what type and brand of inverter? Pure sine wave marine? Lots of details to find out about maintenance on the bow thruster, type of batteries. Three steering stations alone ain’t cheap, likely 10k to rigg each one for verados if done at a dealer?I am just speculating, that commander is a beauty,

Yes the pod. The plan is to give the boat to a local boat builder to design and fabricate a pod when it’s ready. He wants the boat done first and dropped off for motors, at that time the pod will be done. Just talks and planning dates so far but I’m stoked with who might be willing to take my pod on. Doug at Lordship is installing my motors, that’s where the boat is going next.Nice thing is he has everything there if the pod is good, it can all be taken apart and inspected and reinforced. Also remember an 1988 might have fewer issues than a 1980, no offence to to older commander owners who have done the work. Regardless new value on a 26 or 30 outfitted run 500k-1M? I know you can get basic cutwaters for 300k USD but outfitted like his would a hell of a lot more.
Crazy what surveyors miss. If a boat is 20 years old they should speculate on the possibility of some water damage and if the fuel tanks are aluminum and 30 years old than of fuel leakage. One survey I paid for missed the hull had been ran up on the beach and had exposed glass fibers, it was sitting on a trailer! I would look for the most expensive surveyor booked far out next time.
Back to the thread! Man it is looking good and solid. Any updates on the pod? Have you chatted with Derek in Sooke who builds pods? Used to be the head welder for Philbrooks. Opinionated and great guy
Doug helps me out alot. He's my wife's cousin. Huge wealth of knowledge. Good choice. He's your man for sureYes the pod. Well, with the good must come the stupid bad?
Here’s the good. The deck is solid, straight and I was again able to stand on it. The port side was easily installed with the props from yesterday already made. Cleaned up the starboard deck, and it’s ready for glass. Cleaned up the bow area. There was a lot of mounting on the starboard side and some delam. Definitely didn’t go easy on it, every spot in question was removed. Not going to use corebond on the bow, will stick to glass and build it back up. Added a few pics of the bow area fully cleaned.
The stupid bad… ran out of corebond.
Not just ran out like hey we are going to be out soon…. More like oh **** we ran out of corebond with a few feet of the deck left. No stock for a couple weeks at my local supplier or locally I been told. I’m not worried about the last bit of the deck but really wanted to remove a stringer this week and replace them one at a time. I will need corebond to install my stringers, I been reading about a few alternatives but not liking any, mainly because Ron is most comfortable with corebond.
Anybody know where to get any corebond locally? MainlandView attachment 77763View attachment 77762View attachment 77764View attachment 77765View attachment 77766View attachment 77767My bad… the deck still needs a couple more touch upsView attachment 77768View attachment 77769View attachment 77770
When I was glassing for Canoe Cove Manufacturing we would make five gallon pales of gipe. Mix of resin, micro balloons and talc. I can't remember the ratio, but we would go through buckets of the stuff. Industrial Plastics and Paint (don't like these guys) have the materials and might be able to tell you the ratio.Well, with the good must come the stupid bad?
