Commander 26 Re Build

Joking aside,
I would love to extend the v berth on one side only, get rid of the closet in front of the dinette and have forward seating also. This way depending on the set up I will have a dinette that turns into a sleeping berth well over 6 feet long.
Toilet is not going by wife’s head…
Toilet in a closet is WAY better than a toilet in the v-berth. I know this for a fact.

Todays progress
Did a final clean on the transom, put a straight edge on it, fitted the first double ply and marked it. We rigged up some 2x4 to squeeze the ply down. At this point it’s the last day of the month noon and I need to finish my month end and meet that deadline, worst time possible, We are ready to lay down the first ply and my wife ( she works with me) is dragging me off my boat…
I had to leave Ron and gave him a helper.
He applied some resin on the transom side and applied a nice layer of corebond to the ply, set it into place, secured it and left it for tomorrow. Not too happy I couldn’t help Ron with this, not too happy last day of fishing…695AEDA5-A00F-43EA-B119-289A18257674.jpegE565FD50-359E-4B46-B18E-2A91EB10DA69.jpegB33AAAC8-85FF-4D7F-9E3A-456D99C2F3A1.jpeg86FD9654-2F46-4326-ADC4-9CEDE1B2911F.jpeg966B95CF-4CD4-4D1F-9836-A8CAF0B5DCDD.jpeg5201342D-5334-49A0-8F92-9D017D086EEA.jpeg37307416-7B97-4696-87B1-2E0D1D7AAEA8.jpeg867202EB-3EC6-4437-A610-378FA036E04F.jpegAE3B43F1-FA4C-4594-8416-775DE92617B6.jpeg7ACD3ED6-BF80-47DB-9268-8FECDFA95ABC.jpeg

This first week of April has to be one of the most depressing weeks of the year, worse than the end of the NFL season by far. I haven’t been on the water myself since last fall and been scratching my itch with a bit of river fishing.
Might as well start the weekend early, try to get some work done,as my wife already has half of it planned out for me…
Will throw a few more pics out as we go,
Here’s a good look at the hull glass2DB59C20-2502-4FCC-B3CB-F593E8E06BF3.jpeg

Everything is drying fast. Ron managed to lay 2 sheets on top of the first double ply, cover up the thru hulls, fit and install the second double ply. Right now it’s also screwed together for added pressure, but all screws will be removed to prevent any issues with drilling for the pod mounting hardware.23FE2CA6-5B53-4587-8C63-75B40F7F6B5D.jpegC401EF79-7F6C-436A-9EEE-CE567E349262.jpegED805B6E-EE66-40FD-AE33-5CBE03C4DED3.jpegFED696FD-4708-409C-ADBC-0521644E4451.jpeg

Transom is in place, she is a bit thicker than I thought. 3 1/2 is the ply, glass and core bond.
Add the transom glass ( I haven’t measured but assuming over 1/4) and the final mat that’s not laid down yet and we might be around 4”. Sounds a bit overkill even for me, I might have to cut some weight from the gussets LoL. I will try to get a final transom measurement when we drill the transom for the pod mounting hardware, tough to get a accurate measurement with the corebond 48F9D2FC-05EC-4373-9978-49A48D95F6AD.jpeg7C45C01F-68D7-4175-9804-4023CCBE5851.jpegA8D628ED-C5F2-4AC0-ACD1-762BBF300E15.jpeg

Man, you are gonna have problems finding long enough through-hull fittings with such fat transom.
Deck connected to the hull was a good one….@Rayvon Lmao, I still laugh at that.
Chris you gotta do a bit better ;)
I got a whole 3 weeks experience now…

Here’s a few more pics of Ron’s work,
Now the transom is actually connected to the sides of the hull, unlike before.
You figured out how tall your gunnels are gonna be yet?
If I keep the deck dropped 8” , my gunnel height will be 28”

Started on the stringers, they are solid. But smells a bit like fuel where the stringers are connected to the hull and it’s definitely discoloured. I can pull the glass back on one side and see a few gaps on the bottem where it is connected to the hull.
There are also some signs of a previous repair on the hull. Are you thinking to raise the seating heights on the dinette side to accommodate a sleeping coffin under on the side. The layout on my boat has it so there is storage under the rear forward facing dinette seat. Then under the table area forward seat is the coffin. The save under Theon table is under 2 feet but enough space for feet and then opens higher into a nice void under the front dinette seat. This are all connected to the entire v berth on same level for nice big sleeping lounging space. You’d have to lose a closet and raise all dinette area but looks like it could maybe work. Table on my rig is same height as the window so looks like commander may have space

I haven’t thought about raising the dinette seating. That sounds like a great set up. I have been thinking more how to make a forward facing seat up front and remove the closet for that. I’m planning to draw up what I’m thinking of and will post. I will also make a few measurements and see if it’s possible to sneak a coffin under the dinette
