Re powering my Monaro 24 with a 300 hp outboard. What 300 to use

When I repowered Mercs were the most expensive followed by Suzuki. Got a great deal on my Yamahas from Lee at GA in Abbotsford
Cool. Things must have shifted. It was a lot more when I was shopping. I'm a big fan of either motor. I love the smaller mercs. Made in Japan. 👍

Has any one had any failures with the fly by wire type controls? I’m more leaning towards the cable style and basic hydraulic steering just for simplicity and some warning before failure. Which puts me with a Yamaha or mercury 300. Really interested in the Mercury for its larger displacement and 87 octane rating. Sadly no one down in Washington runs the Mercury outboards it’s all Yamaha or Suzuki in my area atleast. Looking for any one with experience with either motor.

Mercury was first out with fly by wire and I have not heard about any issues in the last 10 years.
If you do your own oil changes go Mercury, very reliable solid outboards

Mercury does have an extensive dealer network in Washington state, according to their locator.
