Re powering my Monaro 24 with a 300 hp outboard. What 300 to use

About 2 k lbs more than the 28 foot 8.6 kf I've been on.. and almost identical fuel economy. Best I can get is around 2knots per gal. 350 verado.

Impressive

That’s really good fuel economy you’re getting, nice rig. I’m a mechanical binnacle guy, so the 250 Suzuki or the 300 merc sea pro are my pics. Buddy runs a fleet of sea pros out of Zeballos and has nothing but good reviews. The 300 has proven itself and is available with mechanical or fly by wire.
Haven’t priced a new motor out, scared to with the tariffs.
Good luck with your hunt!

Also check on warrnty lengths, to me thats a game changer

Merc has a 7 year promo to July 10th...i bet it is extended tho.
thats awesome , unfortunatlly here in vic area unless you wanna haul boat up island no dealer down here

Local dealer support is 100% necessary regardless of warranty duration. Hauling out and towing in sucks.

Id lean into a massive single for my barge.

My KF 28 twin Yam 150s fully loaded fuel water 300 pounds of fish 4 people. 1.8 mpg at 30 mph. My buddy same boat with 200s is the same. My other buddy same boat Seapro 400 1.5 mpg.
Those are real no BS numbers

Well apparently it’s not when dual prop 350 zukes hung on a bigger and heavier boat are matching my economy 🤔
Some boats are harder to push, I know Grady’s are not that fuel efficient , hull design, deadrise and a lot of factors involved, props, gear ratio and I can go on( dual prop) single prop, Suzuki have a reputation to be good on fuel, see on mine I just put gas in it and send it lol

Price it out, but a 300hp Suzuki was over $10k less then a Yamaha at the time. Warrantee and Tourque are also considerations. I've been on the Suzuki for a couple of years, and just love the motor.
