2025 OFFISHALL Vancouver- Howe Sound-Sechelt Fishing Reports Thread

Strange day for us. Had 3 springs snap off, lost another 6 springs, some right at the boat some after a few runs. Then we actually got two in the boat. New hooks and new leaders so not sure. I know these chinook are not feeding and sometimes they don’t hit with any conviction but to loose that many in a row after a decent fight was strange. Still fun and I’ll be back tomorrow. We were running anchovies at anywhere from 40’ to 65’ green can area.

Noon to 4 shift today at sandheads Lost a few screamers that the hooks didn't stick. Staying away from the pack doing ins and outs tacks, 4 chinookies in the box. Released some pinks. Hot lure glow white hooch on a t10 flasher at 99ft.
Atta boy

Looks like I'll be out with kids and guests tomorrow midday. Maybe only going as far as the Bell Buoy. Maybe all the way (!!) to T10.

Where can I find the GPS coordinates or some official description of the boundaries of the SRKW zone off the North Arm? This super-helpful map (not a chart!) only lays out the yellow box but doesn't give exact boundaries.
A thicker line to see other identifiable markers.

Bright one on the right red.
Darker one on left also red?
#3 red??

All 3 at sandhead ended up being reds 2 male, 1 female and one real nice crome white from t10 male.

Had to put in 6 hrs at sand heads to box three whites. All different depths and locations. One of the bigger ones took a few long runs. Keeping it away from other boats was the hard part.
Was there a bite at a particular time or was it fairly dispersed through the day? Were you there first light?

How’s bowen this time of year? I see everyone running to sandheads and for sure it must be better there but I would like to drop a couple prawn traps.. and fish near it so it doesn’t get stolen.

After living vicariously through SFBC members reports for the last few years I finally got things sorted out and made the run to Sandheads from Ladysmith this morning. I’ll probably never see better water for the return trip via Porlier Pass!

My BiL and I boxed four white springs with the biggest coming in just over 90 cm and pulling the scale to 21 lbs. We also retained a few of the better pinks for the smoker.

6” anchovies and herring out-fished the white oil-slick hoochie taking three of the four springs and the three biggest. We did a few loops at about 100 fow on the inside then about 200 fow on the outside. 70’ was the mark inside and 130’ outside. Three of the four were caught outside.

In the Nanaimo Reports thread there was a derail conversation about 9’ rods and I mentioned I’d report on the Ugly Stik Carbon Salmon/Steelhead I picked up at Gone Fishing Nanaimo yesterday. Well it brought in the 3 biggest of the 4 springs today and handled the task well. I’m a fan and so is my BiL who said it felt fine like using a surgical instrument lol. The handle above the reel seems small but after battling a few nice springs it gained my confidence.

It was strange. We’d go an hour with nothing. I thought we missed a bite but no. Checked the bait and it was fine. Started at 7 lines down. Weird day. Lucked out at the end compared to most I think.

Thanks for the follow up report on the rod, and I'm glad you had good success on your maiden voyage to Sandheads!
