2024 OFFISHALL Vancouver-Howe Sound-Sechelt Reports Thread

Thanks so much guys for the Intel. I have an older 1101 and 1106 and I'm assuming there's no drag adjustment on those except for as one of you mentioned just perhaps half engaging the break as someone mentioned?
And I assume if you catch bottom and the downriggers letting line out you'll see your rod tip release out of the clip?
There will be drag adjustment on both of those models. It’s the bottom of the 2 nuts that is holding the line spool on. Put 2 x 15 lb cannonballs on one downrigger and adjust the nut so it starts to release. Scotty recommends 30-40lbs drag I think.
Depends on what weight balls you run and how deep etc.

adding bell's to the end of the boom's work to if there out the 60" IMG_0463.JPG

Was at Bowen Saturday on the flood, east, south, Tunstall. Nice feeder chinook I released, lots of shakers (even on a hoochie) so I was checking lines often. Bottom bouncing plus 60-100 ft. Nice day out. A guy asked if I saw someone steal his prawn trap, but a huge tug and barge went through earlier, I think it ran over it.

How was fishing?
I disregarded the sage advice on the forum and decided to hit T10 for old times sake. Waste of effort - could have guessed that. Headed back home and dropped a line by the bell. Cop car spoon at 90ft. Got a hit immediately with a beauty chinook which I lost due to my own stupidity (was fishing solo). No more hits after that but had a great morning.

Long time reader, first time poster.

That was me @Aquaholic . Set traps at S.Bowen. That tug unfastened 2 Bauer traps and a 12lb anchor weight and left the buoy and rope within 50fow from where I left it lol. One trap was first time in the water, hadn’t even made it to the cc statement… ouch!

Otherwise was a great day. 2 nice sized chinook in Tunstall using AP Tackleworks sandlance.

Guess I’ll have to stick closer to the traps this winter with pirates out there!

Were you bottom bouncing at Tunstall?

Tried the bell again on Saturday after seeing how calm the harbour looked (which it does again today). Just for an hour or so between 2 and 3pm. Was about 110 FOW in general and had the golden nugget and cop car maybe 10ft from the bottom. No bites.

Winter fishing is all about sticking it out when you know they're there. The bite can come on for a half hour or less on some days. IMO you really do need to stay and play and put in a longer shift if possible. Tides also play a big factor. I like the bell as the flood just starts to turn on. Cap and Tunstall are top of the flood spots. Find the arches.

very true

Arches as in on your fish finder?
Also I know fishing for prawns is highly guarded Intel 😉 but is there anything to be caught in the harbor at around 250 ft or must you go over towards Bowen island?

The harbour is mostly Shrimp, and small fish. you can't get that depth untill you are near point Atkinson. stay out of the shipping channels.
