Vancouver Saltchuck?

[quoteIt's no mystery to my mind where the fish have gone.....and I don't think there's anyway DFO truly knows how many fish are actually taken in this fishery because the reporting is based on some stupid system which I guarantee is not accurate.

What I just saw makes me SICK.

Actually..I took the time to speak with a few other people witnessing the carnage and they were shocked when I told them about the state of affairs...I ran across a few others who are educated about the issue and they were equally disgusted as I was. A couple of folks called DFO and it was a legal fishery closing tonight.

I know a couple of people at work who regularly get phone calls from the Musqueam Band for Salmon and Dungeness Crab--last August I think they were being offered 15-20 pound springs for $25 a fish. This spring they were being offered live Dungeness for $20 for 6. Sox were being offered up at $10/fish 2 years ago.

Where I work my staff know that I'm a big sportfisher...and they know it's dead wrong to be purchasing from them....they won't disclose anything to me but I hear the goings on.

DFO won't touch this issue with a 10 foot pole..it's a public relations nightmare...and the politicians won't go near it...the RCMP don't want another Oka... it's a nightmare....for the same reasons....there won't be a Harbour Seal cull....there are now better than 175000 seals over the BC Coast...new historical population highs

Same chit on the cap right now too.:(:(:(

I'm setting my priorities. I'm making time for fishing.

Same on the Cap now too eh? SAD!!!

Anyways..back to fishing...

Sundays report...I didn't fish today...thought I'd leave the blowing SE to other folks.

There was a private guided derby in Vancouver today with several boats and all there was to show for it were 3 Cohos....many more lost..but that was it--the landing percentage was poor.

Talked to a fisheries surveyor and all he observed was 3 fish for a 10 or so boats fishing off the mouth of the Fraser----nothing of significant size.

It has slowed off...

I was out from 9 til 3 today. Saw probably 30 boats and only 2 springs (low 20's) landed.
The wind did kinda put a damper on an otherwise great day.
I hooked into 2 undersized springs. I was really looking forward to putting a little more coho in the freezer but that didn't happen.

any news heading out tomorrow a.m. no report in paper today from predator. thxs

hey poco I fished the lightship the past two nights with only a shaker and a grilse to show for it. the weathers been absolutely gorgeous though!

was out fri aft great conditions at the s. arm about 12 boats 1 good hit and played a 20+ to the boat but line broke doing the one handed net attempt. so still a few around. also river had gillnetters out again all over?

Taking the neighbours out for a 3 hour tour this afternoon. Thought we would try West Van for a coho. Anyone out lately?

Thanks for that Nerka,we are heading out now and will report when we get back.

I went out yesterday and picked up my fist coho in a very long time, not much for other action though I did try a lot of my arsenal. Then finally I had another take and picked up the rod and felt some good beats, then my reel seriously started screaming to the point of burning skin of a couple of my fingers trying to slow it down. My first thought was TYEEEE then I saw this shiny black !@#@#$%^&*^#$@ head pop up looking at about two hundred yards out. He must have had a hook in him because I could not retrieve my gear and had no choice but to drop the tip and snap it off.Anyhow I am going to give it a shot again this afternoon and hopefully do well.I did see a handful of coho boated but no chinook yesterday along the west van shoreline.

Tried for a couple of hours at the Cap, no fish but a good variety of weeds.

Was out for the high slack, terrible algae bloom, lots of crap in the water. Saw one nice spring and 1 or 2 coho caught. Nothing for me.

Check out the latest test results for the fraser, the fish are obviously there and heading up from somewhere.

For those of you who are fishing the CAP area beware of an underwater hazard. A few of us hooked up on it today and we were lucky that we didn't lose much gear. It is down about 35 to 50 feet and extends from the last jetty to marker at the mouth. If you run a tack about 100 feet or so off of the marker you should be OK. We think it may be a submerged commercial trap line as it does not want to move. Anyone with a grappling hook and some time could haul it out of there !!!

good luck and watch out !

Where are we fishin this weekend boys? Hoes and mabe a spring at the cap mouth or t-10. Has anyone heard any reports this week? I am thinkin real early fishin tomorrow morning with that early high tide.

Looks like the commercial crabber has removed his underwater obsrtuction. Fished last night and this morning with no problems. A few nice Coho on the hook at the slack and just after this morning. Good luck.

So it seems people have nothing to say of our excellent fishing in local waters right now!! We had one of the best days ever yesterday first landing a nice hatchery coho then hitting a double header with two pinks and while sorting that mess the other side started bobbing and turns out to be a nice 20lb red spring. Following that we missed a couple pop-offs then lost one. Then nothing for a while so we moved to different area and caught and released a nice 8lb sockeye then tagged into another spring likely a twin to our other but lost it on the surface.A while later we hooked and lost another unknown fish at the boat then at my turn I lost another in the prop wash.We also had a few other pop offs throughout the day.It was a twelve hour day on the water but a busy one with lots of action!! The fish were caught all over vancouver harbour at various depths on spoons and anchovies with the high tide being most productive.Get out there and catch fish now!!

Hey if you know how to upload pics let me know as I have some good ones from yesterday!!
