The OFFISHAL Vancouver 2011 Reports Thread

Looked just like that again this morning.....but the weather turned on us at about 9:30 or 10:00.

Couple nice teenage whites......lost one or two on the hook set.....and had a NICE fish get wrapped up in a guy's rigger. There was a nice sized tail hanging out of the water and he being solo didn't want (was having trouble) to net it for us as it was right there at his ball. That fish hit.....and peeled line from me like crazy....we were just starting to chase it down and then it hit the rigger.........crapola!!!!

I would have netted the bugger if it was on my rigger ..... and then kept it (JK.....LOL).
Why not net it for you ....dont understand why not even if he had to untangled later . Unless of course he was headed for the rocks or danger but ???
All you can do is ....... Get'er next time ! Good Luck !

Caught my biggest coho ever in Vancouver waters yesterday morning out there, looked like a spring when it was thrashing around behind the boat. Hatchery to boot! Back out tomorrow am stalking springs...

Lets keep this thread alive Vancouver boys, Im predicting a strong winter chinook fishery this year to follow up this unbelievable late summer/fall season!

Fished the Bell Buoy on sat...as I was solo
No action at the Bell Buoy but the Sounder showed lots (maybe jellies) just west of the Buoy

Yep, hard to imagine how good it would have been this past weekend if there weren't so many boats! Incredible that you can hook 30 springs over 15 pounds in 2 days on Vancouver's doorstep in a GONG show. One for the books for sure. Too bad they don't fight worth a damn....

Cap Fishing

It'll be interesting to see what happens this week. I think they must have flooded the cap/opened the dam as the river is way higher today. Hopefully we'll get another wave or two, but I'm guessing the best is past. I can't get out for another 2 weeks, until mid october, so I'm hopin for the best.

Keep them reports comin, I wanna know if I should just call it a season or give it 1 more crack mid month

New to the van chuck scene , is there any good chum fishing around?
Not really they're more of an incidental catch - by the time the Chum get here the weather has often turned to ****-that being said if more people targeted them more fish would be caught.

Were are the areas to target them not bothered by the weather
Well how long is a piece of string?

It all depends where the wind is blowing from and what time of year it is-we've caught them spitting distance from the dock @ Ambleside in September, they school up along Spanish Banks any time now and I've seen all kinds heading up Howe Sound in late October/early November.

There are massive schools somewhere getting ready to hit the Chilliwack/Vedder system and if it's a calm day down @ Sandheads it might be worth your while-for them or some big tackle busting white Springs.

As Dogbreath has mentioned Ambleside out from the 14st dock can be good for Chum . Although unusual, one year in mid October after limiting on Springs at the Cap I moved over away from the crowd and fished over in the 14th street dock area, not 300 yards from the launch ramp in west Van . Every time I did a pass out off the dock I'd hit one or a double of chum and within an hour or so I hit 8 silver bright chum . They were smallish for chum maybe 6-10lbs but they fought like crazy. Usually the Cap might provide 1 or 2 incidental Chums a year for me in October and even Nov. Look for jumpers otherwise I don't even think to target them .

The QA area in mid to late October has produced some large chum for me in past years although some are rather grim looking. but can be decent at times there. I find anchovy or strip is best although pink or purple hootchie has worked too. They seem to be off the bite often but when you hook em they fight hard and don't give up ......I practice my 'tailing' with them and usually release them all. If you can 'tail' land a chum you can tail anything -lol!

You can get Chum anywhere in the Harbour , you just have to look for them - they are somewhat like small schools of socs as they can be schooled up at Ambleside one day or over at Bell the next or out at QA , Atkinson --- you need on-site, at the moment reports to be put on them or just search around a bit....

Went to drop the crab traps 300 yards straight out from the yacht club this evening for an overnight soak... Was marking thick red schools on the sounder - tried to drop a sabiki rig hoping it was some nice big anchovies, no luck, maybe some chum or late socks schooling up???

hey guys,
we are coming from the valley tomorrow morning and usually launch at macdonald beach, is there anything better for fishing the Cap or should we go to vanier
Thanks in advance guys, I'm sure we'll see some of you out there.
