Most top producing guides were skunked at the Cap today. Fishers should probably consider doing something else for this weekend. If the pros aren't getting plenty of action, then it may be a good call to keep the boat on the dock or trailer. :(

hey guys,
we are coming from the valley tomorrow morning and usually launch at macdonald beach, is there anything better for fishing the Cap or should we go to vanier
Thanks in advance guys, I'm sure we'll see some of you out there.

how big is your boat? you may be able to launch at ambleside

C'mon now FM ya cant have them all to yourself:D

We have a 17 foot whaler, I've never launched at ambleside, I've heard it's kinda rough on a low tide but Ive never used it so I could use some info on it.

I havent launched there in years but I know the ramp is still there and lots seem to use it, I used to launch an 18' bayliner there
wasnt very good on a real low tide worse case you had to go fish for a couple more hours
but like I say I havent used it for years, but you are right at the cap mouth

Going to drag the gear from Seymour Bay, along southern Bowen all the way to Gibsons tomorrow. I will let you know what I find. They have to be coming from somewhere as they pool in the harbour,

Back to reality boys. From noon to 515 yesterday I counted 6 fish hooked. 5 landed, 4 of which were Coho. Pretty slow stuff for 25 boats.

Definitely quiet Satuday a.m. at the Cap. Was out from 8am to 11am and had two solid hits that popped off the riggers in the first hour and then nothing of substance after that. I only saw 2 fish boated. It changed today's plans from smoking fresh salmon to smoking frozen salmon.

damn, looks like I picked the right weekend to leave town. Gonna go out wednesday am to T10 and see if any Fraser springs are still pushing through...

If the fish have mostly headed up the river at the Cap mouth, it might be worth a try to hit Point Atkinson on the tide change. There should still be fresh fish moving in and the fresher hey are the more eager they bite. Chums sometimes school up around Point Atkinson in Oct as well. Just a thought if the Cap mouth has tapered off.

was quiet out there for me as well today, mind you I was on more of a "get the boat back in the water" thing today
but while I was out I dropped a couple prawn traps for My first time ever prawning and then went back and trolled from the cap back up to west bay,
didnt have a sniff but beautiful weather and flat calm, soaked the traps for 2 hours and pulled them by hand from 300'+ (waiting on the new Ace to come)
ended up with 4 doz nice ones for our troubles, all in all it was a great day even without any fish, just nice to be out enjoying the water.
Turkey tomorrow for us so no fishing here, will be back out next week/end sometime for sure tho

Gidyup, what were u using for bait. I am new to Prawning too and I use prawn pellets that I get from ewos in surrey which is food plant processor of some kind. Where was the cheapest place to buy the Brutus? Your arms must still be tired, done that a few times myself. Also do any of you other guys know the optimal soak time for prawn traps and when are the best months. Cheers for any help

Hey Lucky, I was using pellets mixed with friskies ocean fish cat food, I mixed it up the night before then rolled it into baseball sized clumps and put in baggies and froze it.
the next day I just rolled them right out of the baggie and into the bait jars, no muss no fuss.
Ewos does alot of fish pellets and it the summer it really stinks around there I used to haul into them, dont misss it either, I was told not to let my trap soak anymore then 2-3 hours at a time
cause once the bait is gone they start making their way back out, I don't know about that cause these things yesterday were some of the largest I seen, and only had one with berries that I tossed back
Tim

should be some nicer/dryer weather on the way now for the next week, cap is dropping,
hopefully there are some more springs to start stacking up again

You can hear a pin drop around here....
Don't say that, Holmes will be in here posting noise lol
the pin must have fallen out cause we're no longer a sticky either
