Sooke Reports - Spring/Summer 09

David Suzuzki says: We are ensuring that our Salmon effectivley adapt by remaining smaller and swimming deeper.

Think about it. We kill all the big fish. The smaller fish are the ones being released to return to the rivers to spawn. As well, the fish that swim below the nets are the ones that reproduce genetically deep swimming progeny.

Theres your thought for the day guys.

Well boys, today was a far cry from yesterday and friday, fished from 6am-6pm and managed 2 7# springs and a 7# hatch coho. Let go a few bigger wild coho's. Heard there was one hell of a bite this afternoon at secretary around 3:00. one was reported at #45.6. Thats a hog! lots of huge herring balled up out there, maybe going to try some big spoons! Smiley, tried you on the radio but you were off that water already.

Back out again at 6am try again.

Good to hear there are some good ones around! Now 5 days of torture sitting behind a desk sneaking peaks at the weather reports for the weekend every once in a while[V]. Smiley too early to say yet but if you are looking for folks in the spring to chip in on a halibut charter I might be up for that. I haven't really ever targeted them so agree on the idea of a guided trip to start out. Pretty advanced notice and who knows what will be going on by then but something to keep in mind.

don't ever ***** about the seals in Sooke! Was at my old childhood stomping grounds at Cortes this weekend and these things were sitting RIGHT ON TOP of my old favorite salmon spot. Yeah, like I was going to drop a line. Funny thing is, there aren't any salmon there to be found - jokes on them!

Looks like some epic battles to be had there! :D
I thought there were some natives on Cortes Isl? Next time bring them some shells...
