Sooke Reports - Spring/Summer 09

Dilbert...specific reference for this derby, a bunch of engineers fishing, with pocket protectors?

But maybe appropriate generally for the forum...computer geeks with an interest in fishing...or fishing geeks with an interest in computers?

Dunno, take your pick...but a nickname may be born...

Never in a million years would I have categorized my self a computer geek. Hmmmmm........ . Fishing geek? Is there such a beast? Do geeks fish? I guess so. Maybe he's the Dilbert.

No geek or Dilbert here. Just a hard core.;)

two boatloads of engineering dilberts from our office heading down there tomorrow...no pocket protectors, plenty of beer.

How's fishing in Sooke in a gale warning?

Hit the water with Chris73, Deewar and Phil...had some good laughs. Deewar landed a 28.6lber , we also got 2 smaller springs, a bunch of pinks....Good times.

out of 4 people no one had a camera for on the water pics...Deewar will post a picture later

water was nice and calm for us

2 12 lb springs first thing at Secretary, then out to the tide lines to fill in the gaps with pinks. Nice morning but my last day of summer holidays!:( Back to being a weekend warrior now.

Hmm...better not see any 28.6 lb weigh ins at the derby tomorrow with ice in its mouth. D: got a biologist on board for this derby?

;)

Oh yeah, what did I say about using up your luck the day before a derby? Hope that doesn't hold true!

I sure hope it does... haven't been on the water in days! Good Luck to everyone out there tomorrow! And if you have a pink ribbon on your boat, i'm loaded with bottle rockets and water ballons so don't get too close!!! [}:)]:D Especially you wolfy! See ya in the morning!

JDS...no worries, actually had a biologist on the boat and he can verify my 32 tomorrow as well! Yep, probably my luck used up as you suggested, but hell, I don't care as thats my largest sooke salmon. Exact same setup as I had when I lost the hog a few weeks back as well - betsy and an oki jdf. Thanks much SJ for the ride - right place at the right time. Had a blast.

As for all the wind warnings - may not be an issue - bigwave says 10, and it was supposed to howl today and it was a mirror for a large chunk of the morning when the fog came in. We may get lucky.

Not to detract from the purpose of the thread, but, for the Dilberts and Dilbert wanna-be's, whats the difference between a pocket protector and the flasher cases that have individual sleeves for each flasher?
Both indicate hard-core concerned about their gear. Perhaps more Dilberts here than you realized.

Nice pic. Is that a talking tree by your left elbow? Good luck with the derby.

lol - he guards our house from the common thug. Every house should have one. Thanks much. Chaos organizing last few days, but I think like last year, it will come together awesome. Little help from mother nature would be nice too.

Hey Guys- Just got home from our trip to Sooke. It was good and bad for me. Caught lots of fish but had my Scotty Downrigger swival Bases stolen along with my steering arm that connects to my yamaha kicker. To top it all off 4 of my crab pots went missing in Sooke Harbor. They may have been dragged by the kelp so I am hoping they will be found. They have my phone # on them 707.337.0608. If anybody finds them, I am glad to pay a reward. thanks.

Whats the word guys, how was the day's fishing?

Thinking of hitting the water Sunday morning. Not my favourite tide to fish but It doesn't start to look like descent mornings until Tuesday. I have some time tomorrow so figured I see how you all did.

Thanks,

HL

There was a bite around 7am this morning at trap. Not alot of big springs to be found though.Bunch of teenagers for us.

Fished Otter Point 6am - 2:30pm. Got a 27 lbers, 55 ft, Betsy and Green and Yellow glow head. Lost two other good ones. Released 2 5-7 lb Jack Springs. and many other hits and fish on. It was a good day and nice out there.

Thanks for the prize and help shucking corn Smiley! You are definitely on the roster for next year.

Took a couple of 9 year old twin girls out for the Pink Festival today. The jalopy felt more like being inside a pin ball machine with all the action! What a blast. Its always one of the best trips of the year. Tons of pins in 400-500 off church.
