Big wave says downgraded to 10k for the morning, but things could change. Got a couple of the last tickets by the looks of it..

Tournament Proven !

Baz--head out into the deep --anywhere from 300 feet out to 500 or more. Look for the tidelines and vary the depth of your red hoochies until you find what depth is working for you. You're going to need to know the difference between a sockeye, coho and pinks as we were shaking socks the other night.

Also try using a Red gold hotspot flasher and a nasty-boy 4" coyote spoon. Been hitting some big springs in the tidelines on those past week or so. 4 foot leader. 50ft Pinks and cohos also love that spoon. Its an all around great spoon. Report back and let us know how you do!

Got out this morning for a quick fish from 4:45 to 10. It was pretty windy and bumpy so we opted to fish inside Beacher Bay. The ramp at Cheenuh was a breeze but it was still dark when we launched. By 5:30 it was absolute mayhem near aldridge. Boats everywhere. The fog and wind were holding right at Aldridge, so a lot of guys stayed in the bay. Couldn't tell you how many a**holes ran at full speed through a group of at least 50 boats. We had three pinks by 7am all within the bay. Two on anchovy and one on a hootchy between 30-60 feet. Couldn't find any springs but there was a 30 and another twenty something at the cleaning table beside me caught at secretary.

While in a great weather, I hate when the sea fog moves in so quickly and creating big waves that put many boats to stay inside the bay. Been there before and boated a 20 pound spring few yards from two marinas in becher bay years ago instead of wanting to go to the Head.

Lost about a 20 off the bedfords at 9:30 this morning. Was interesting weather today. Also hit aobut a dozen pinks. Then tried out luck for hali out near William head, hit about 20 dog fish and called it a day.

Out today 5am - noon. Not much happening. Caught lots of pinks and coho around otter and Muir and managed to hook onto a submerged commerical crab trap buoy. Wow. It took everything. That was not a good start to the day. Look out for this just out by the red house in about 79 ft of water. One spring right at the end of the day about 9lbs released.

Anybody got a report from Beechy Head or the Bedfords all those springs that were up at Sheringham, Muir and Otter about a week ago should be in this area by know. Any reports from today.

We were out Saturday, got 7 pinks and 1 Hatchery coho and release 3 baby springs. Back out today and more baby springs, wild coho and a few pinks. With all the boats at Secretary and Possession, we did not see many caught although I understand better fishermen than us caught the odd big spring.
We have caught a couple of coho that look like they had been given a botched clip job by the hatchery. One had a very short pointed shaped fin and the other had most of the fin removed but they left a long narrow strip like a turkey beard sticking up. We released them both but I am curious what other people do with these and what DFO’s position is. Not too hard for us to release a couple of 6 lb-ers, but having to releasing a 15lb coho with almost all of its fin clipped off, now that would really hurt.

Well, if it were me, I'd likely keep them (certainly if it were 15). I think if there is enough evidence that a cutting attempt was made, you could talk your way out of trouble. Speaking from experience when I fin clipped earlier this year, sometimes the sleepy juice isn't given long enough and the fry shake around quite alot. When trying to get through them a decent clip, you don't always guarantee they are perfectly cut. I know I tried my damndest to cut all of the fin off, but there were likely some that slipped through with a corner of fin still remaining.

Makes sense when you actually do it yourself and realize it isn't that easy (easy when totally knocked out, but seemed only to be the case 60-70% of the time)

I was up there yesterday (Sat.) fishing Renfrew, good morning bite lots of springs being played out.. we had 3 good springs on, lost them all ! They were not sticking, friends boat he lost 3 springs, another boat we know lost two, another boat came on the radio said he lost two springs at the boat, another boat we talked to lost 3 springs... saw another boat play a big spring out behind the boat for awhile... pop! gone.. ohh was he pissed... I can'nt repeat what he was yelling ! Very weird day, one of those days where the springs were not sticking well.. Either way the big springs were there! Buddy I fished with he was out on Friday, he landed 3 in the high twenties.. had a triple header on of big springs, landed one spring, had a few others on as well, his friend same day Friday had a 40,30 and two in the teens. So ya I'd say the fish are coming.. from what I saw looks good hope these spring come down quick to Sooke!

Actually they started showing up last week, my fishing buddy up there had a 38lber. the day before the derby last weekend.. as of Yesterday I was told so I quote what I heard(personaly did not look at the board my self) "there were 10 springs over 40 on the Renfrew marina board"... So ya, get ready Sooke.. I think there on there way@!@!
