Now that had me laughing, Steve. You must have been a tad busy! My dog did that once when I was trout fishing---launched himself out of my canoe after a whitetail that appeared on the lakeshore. The difference was he just about sent ME into the water! I was in the middle of a fly cast when 80 lbs of dog unexpectedly exited the boat.
