Sooke Reports - Spring/Summer 09

ya I was out for a quick one yesterday morning - didn't see a spring landed all morning off the trap, very quiet! There is lots of coho and pinks a little further out and some big fat sockeye too but those are a no go.

Hit the water from 4-dark tonight, Wow lets just say late night bite at the head! It went off like magic tonight. My dad lost two screamers one had to be over 30 pounds. I had a few light strikes. saw a few 30+ fish caught and many more landed and fought. The fog was thick and the wind was blowing, but the action was good.

Out early morning yesterday, trap, bonked a 24.5# lost another good fish very early, then nothing. Moved out for some pinks and got 4 cohos but no pink. Bait literally everywhere close in. The fish we cleaned was crammed full with 2" feed. No wonder so slow.

Out tonight, 5-dark trap shack. it was just on fire again tonight. Nailed 2 hatchery coho and a pink in the first 30 mins then as the sun set i brought my lines up closer to the surface and wham, my rod at 44 feet, releases and dips. I knew it was a good fish, ran alot of line out. 20 mins later, netted a nice 24 pounder! and hit another hatchey coho as we were pulling the gear!

Awsome night

Sorry to say 1 spring and a couple of coho is not "on fire" it may be to you but what I think people would consider on fire would be a limit of springs in 2 to 4 hours.
It is by far "on fire" out there when i was out on wed. saw 1 spring caught I consider that "SLOW" now if I seen 20 boats on with fish thats "great"!!!!!
Glad you had a good night of fishing....

Holy Coho batman!
It has been a long time since I have seen so many coho around. Good to see. Was out last night solo and could not keep 2 lines in the water very long and when I did I was getting double headers. Had a coho take the line right out of my hand while I was setting it in the release clip. A few pinks around also.
Did not see any springs but I was fighting the wind and could not fish the shoreline effectively last night.

All my recent fish are full of krill.

Time to get the wives, kids and newbies out there. I also put together a fly rod that I hope to put to use.

NO SPRINGS....I was trying to get a rise out of Roy.:D..being the usual a@# that I am...lots of Coho action all wild...we still had some good entertainment

Was out this morning Lost two screamers at possesion One at 5 and the other around 6, landed the third spring 15 pounds. Fished til 11:30 with three hatch 9 pound coho and a pink same size.

On fire for somone who is not a guide is different i guess. I have spent many days with not even a fish. so to take 5 home is on fire for me. Not to mention a 24 in the boat and lost a few more aswell. I guess not everyone agrees. But for me catching a releasing about 30 cohos and the spring is a great nights fishing for a few hours.

Fished sherringham today. Out late, first rod in the water at 815. First fish in the boat at 830. 33lbs and that was just the start! Lost a screamer at about 10 am that felt bigger than the one in the boat.... (don't they always though?) Had a quick visit from fisheries and trolled down to Otter at about noon. Did a pass on the beach in really close and hit another one at 20ft on the rigger. Thanks to the yankee boat that pulled their riggers. Caught their line though and had to cut it free with the fish not exactly cooperating. Somehow managed to get free of the line and boated a 36! To say the day was a blast would be an understatement for sure! Oh yeah, Bloody nose Betsy for both and the first one was at 50ft. Makes up for the past three trips where i was skunked. :D

Hey im not saying that !!! but people on here looking are looking for a reports that is accurate and consistant thats all. when lots and I means lots of guys around are catching fish then thats good fishing not just 1 spring here and there by the numbers you keep throwing out maybe you best venture into guiding becuase you have quite apperently are a "on fire" fisherman.

Good luck Wolf

Nice work addicted. We were at Otter around 8 ish and were marking fish in close one pin popper that never stuck and then the weeds got really bad so we left :( No springs for us today, coho and pinks.

Got out around 8:30 this am and decided to fish out a ways off of the Bluffs around the 2nd tide line. Never saw a spring all day but the coho were something else. Tried fishing three line but it was a bit of a gong show as it seemed there was always one or two on. We got our limit of hatchery coho and lost count of how many we released, but the ratio was around 4 or 5 not clipped for every clipped fish. They are not fussy and seem to hit anything you put down, so we stopped using bait. We also picked up a few good pinks to fill in our limit. Got back to Sunny Shores and while we were unloading, a boat came in with two spring over 30 (may have been Addicted’ as I see his post above) and soon after another boat came in with a 34. Interestingly neither boat had any coho or pinks, but for some reason they didn’t seem to be complaining.
