Sooke Reports - Spring/Summer 09

Nope, out in my boat this weekend, camped at sunnys. Definently know my way around the boat your talking about, I might be a boat slut. Out again Thurs...

Cannot wait to get Dewey gooned in your new ride kev!! I sat in it, drank beer an played pretend at the marina, couldn't find what I was looking for though,LOL! Still waiting to get my muckers into Tailspin or Wolf's boat to see what goodies they got.

Awsome! Deveson set it up perfectly for fishin and its solid as a rock. Not sure if it's the boat catching fish or me right now to tell you the truth, but whatever it is I hope it lasts!! :D See you out there!

Just talked to my neighbour who fished the Isalnd Farms Derby on Sun. He told me there were only 15 fish weighed in out of 100plus tickits and some of those were 10lber's, 32ish won it he said. Those #'s seem very low can anyone confirm? Rob where did that fish you got off Poss. place?

Got out to sooke today for the first time this season - I can't believe how late I'm starting salmon. Just a busy month coupled with repowering my boat.

Anyways, the motor ran great! We went to Otter at about 530 and fished until 730. No hits and didn't see anybody get anything, nor talked to anybody who got anything. We went to sherringham by 8, saw a guy get a little one, 10ish, but he said he had one close to 30 (on a hootchie) so we stuck around and got a 20 at about 9. 50 feet. Never fished sherringham before - its a nice little spot and away from the crowds. Only us and a few other boats. Anyways, we stayed unti labout 11 but nothing else. My worst fear was that it was going to come on at otter and we would miss it - was anybody there from 7 - 11ish?

At Cheanuh, a guy had a 29, a 20, and a 1 that he thought was a coho - it couldn't have been more than 1 lb. Said he got them around 6 at the head. Kind of sucks to hear after you run to sherringham - O well its nice to see a rod bend. Out again tomorrow but closer to home.

Also. I wasn't around last year and I'm not sure about the status of launching near Sooke. I thought I heard Jocks was dredged?? Is this true?

Dudds

we fished from trap shack to posession pt. from 6.00 a.m.to 11.30 no fish didnt see any caught many boats fishing weres the fish?????

Day off today, it would have been one of the better nights to be out there to catch the evening bite. (little wind) I hope a few of you took advantage and got out there and nailed a few! Back at it again tomorrow, kinda thinking we are due for a whale day...hope they don't show up in the morning sometime.

I was just looking out towards Race and thinking the same thing. I've been on the end of a jackhammer and packing broken cement bits out of my basement for about 3 hours this pm or I would have been out there.

No Rigours

Got home yesterday from the trailer and got 3 springs , 27 , 22 ,20 around Muir and Otter Point on Saturday and Sunday , 70 to 85 ft , Gold Betsy flashers bloody nose anchovy bait heads (2)on one side and black/chrome (1)on the other side , all leaders were at 74 ins.
GPS speed over land at 2.7
All caught on the rising tide about 2 to 2 1/2 hrs after the low slack.
Soft hits and they were full of herring.

Know of 3 boats at Otter until dark last night, one of my pals saw a snap at around 8pm and 920pm, about 5 fish caught on each snap. One of my other buddys up there got a 30, sorry no details. There were fish up there but it sounds like they were not exactly jumping in the boat.

Saw 4fish brought in around 9pm when the bite came on.
Bit windy and lotsa kelp in the water made it for an interesting night on the water.
cheers

JUST FISHEN'

Sounds like a few fish were caught before 6am this morning. I arrived at 6:45, nothing for a few hours, seen 2 or 3 caught. Ended up with a 27, 20 & 7 pound springs between 10:30 and noon. Can't fish the night bite right now, hope others are getting out after work and taking advantage of less boats and better action.
