Sooke Reports - Spring/Summer 09

Nice to hear of nice fish still around!
Out at Possesion early, really early had to get off the water at 7:30 to go to work. Not a sniff for 3hrs of dragging gear.
Maybe tommorow;)
cheers

JUST FISHEN'

Did 2 trips today 31 1/2 & 10 pound springs and 4 hatchery coho on the first trip. A 31 1/2, 27, 25 and an 18 on the 2nd. Only fished 2 1/2 hrs on the second trip for our limit. 2 double headers let one go about 10 pounds.

Sounds like an awesome day!! All of your reports are always so informative. I mean you have been guiding in sooke since the 80's and if 10% of the fisherman catch 90% of the fish you shouldn't be worried about giving some info out to us newbs. Out for the next 3 days, good luck to all. Sure be nice to see a few poeple break into the 40's soon.

hey, which one was Dale and his buddies on?

Worked the Trap and the Island today. real slow in the am, hit the mixed bag of coho and feeder size springs. Trolled back and was going to quit at noon pulled one rod to go in and the other bounced hard.Great fight lots of fun to net a 33.8 by yourself. Damm where was that fish last weekend LOl. Hit the fish off the head 75 feet green on green. Cheers FC

Today was a day for lots of patience...lots. It paid off for us with 38, 28, 25, 20, 14 & 10 pounders. Lost 4 more including both of a double. The 38 and 25 were also a double. We were out all day but landed 5 of the 6 and lost the 4 in an hours fishing.

Jeezuz, ....patience? Those are some damn good numbers on a slowish day.
Fess up dude, where are you hitting these fish? Your making me jealous( and I hit fish )

We were the only boat left fighting the westerlies when the bite finally came on.

yup there was a good daylight bite as well had 5 to tthe boat and 3 of them were before another boat even showd up.Muir was the spot and i got just about all of them at 99 ft.

Landed a 25lb Chinook today 8:40am possession Point and then lost a bigger one 30+ right at the boat. Had one other small hit. Seemed pretty slow today. Only fished 4 hrs total, 2 hrs in the trap nothing and then move to possession for 2 hrs and had 3 hits, 1 in the boat, 1 lost at the boat and 1 little hit. Good day though but I did not see much caught. There was lots of boats out.

Had to battle the strong westerlies again today and wait on the bite. Ended up with 31 1/2, 29, 19, 17 & 14 pounders. Lost 3 more. Hopefully the morning tides start to produce a bit better, without having to leave the dock at 4:30 to get in to some fish.

you're quite a stud profisher - seems like every time you go out you come back with a fish over 30lbs and full limits, I'm jealous.

With all this big fish talk some pics wouldn't be such a bad idea. Your credibility, even though LC vouched for ya, profisher, with me for one is running thin. Not that you have to prove anything to anyone.
And a report becomes a brag unless you throw in some knowhow. Don't give it all away but keep it real.
I miss Wolf's reports (with Pics!!!)

Oh i'm sure he's getting them boys, you could to you just have to be there when there biting, when i was guiding out of sooke full time that hard afternoon flood at Otter is the king and the harder the westerly the better,it's a hard fish but the rewards are worth it.
Just think about it the major bite in the late afternoon+big winds = no boats so if your out there your going to hammer them.

Now for me it's been a great couple weeks guiding in sooke but it's time to go hard in reny, kind of a sad day.

The last couple of posts did nothing to help my case of two-footitus. Got caught in that westerly coming back to the Harbour from Beechey later Saturday in my 16' DE, wouldn't want to be in anything less that's for sure. Can anyone give any clues as to where to catch the sunrise for the later part of the week? I was considering Sherringham or Muir Cr but not too sure if there is a better bet. Thanks!

I miss Wolf’s posts as well, as they are always informative. After fishing out of Sunny Shores for the last five years, I can tell you that in my opinion he is the most consistent fisherman there. To many times we have walked past the cleaning station with nada while he is cleaning a few big ones. It kept me interested in trying again and in learning a bit more about how to do right, - which is starting to pay off.
Two reasons for posting Wolf, - the appreciation of you fellow fishermen and good advertising for your already successful business.
