Early Halibut Opening

Somebody suggested leaving it closed for a year, maybe not a bad idea considering the options that remain.
I don’t believe they allow a carryover if we are under. If they did this it might open the door to that? Also might need IPHC approval?

I have attached the latest Creel Survey Coast Assessment Bulletin regarding Halibut.

I will send out the entire two Creel Survey Reports (24 pages and 8 pages) regarding all fish on a new Thread

The two attached pages only reflect the number of halibut caught in 2024, but not the lbs. I have not received that and hopefully it will be available at your local DFO/SFAB up coming meetings

Note, one page is on kept and one on released.

The time is NOW for the public fishery (rec sector) to push hard to get more than 15% of the TAC!! They did in in WA state we can do the same here!

It is a no brainer that the public fishery generates more way money for the economy then the commercial sector does when it comes to the halibut fishery. This is what we need to push our politicians for.
We did it years back, used to be 88/12, PM came to Comox I believe on Easter weekend to save John Duncans butt in that election. Told us he would get us more TAC. if we voted Conservative. We did and with a swipe of a pen we got more TAC. It can be done again, people just have to rally together and that seems to be the hardest part. Not many want to get their hands dirty anymore
