Commander 26 Re Build

Yeah, it was crazy the lengths to get the perfect bottom.
Yet, you screw up one tack or mark rounding, and you lose ten times the time you would gain from that perfect bottom.

I digress, more boat **** pictures please @Sttr !

Sailboat racers longboard their hulls for perfection.
Get a roll of adhesive backed sandpaper and then cut a 3' long board out of 1/4" ply, attach a couple of pieces of 2x4 for handles on the back.

This is the exterior that you see everytime you approach the boat, I would be repeatedly kicking myself in the nuts if my stringers looked better than my gelcoat. And your stringers look awesome.
3 foot eh…. Will keep that in mind
Right now I’m rocking 21 inches C8435487-EC29-4169-8786-9DBEE2D7E187.jpeg

Ok that was nasty,
But we all knew what was under there
Few spots we went thru the hull prepping for stringers and others where a layer away.
Maybe I added a bit of mayhem with a little wet sand blaster today but it needed to be exposed, those are the worst areas, mostly cleaned up very well.
Overall I’m enjoying sanding with Ron, listening to Spanish guitar songs, Finished up 220 and 400 (almost) today. Here’s a few pics of her clean up a bit

It sure is starting to seem like that LoL
I’m curious to see how this bends, I’m a bit worried it’s going to kink the stainless. I have a few end caps and joints that came with it. Not sure how I feel about them. I’m looking into other end caps or even corner caps.
Was hoping to have a spare piece of rail I can experiment with but that’s not the case, I need them all.
The first bend will tell all.View attachment 83391
Fill it full of dry sand before you bend it that way it wont kink on you

You haven't had the full experience of boat repair until you've laid on your back and ground fiberglass overhead.Your goggles/mask fog up,get layered in dust, your arms feel like rubber and shoulders ache. Then you glass ,grind again, fill, sand again, wonder why you took this on etc.ENJOY.
U got everything right except the last part :)
It’s like you know what I’m doing and you been here before hahahah

I hope you re not on pain killers because of me

Bad back from working on boats for 40 years. That trim is a new kind I've never seen, are there no holes for fasteners? Seems odd to me that you would have to drill and counter sink.I would have thought it would be solid stainless. What are the dimensions /width?

Stainless part is 1 1/2, white mold is 2 1/2 if I remember right.
The mold has no holes for fasteners also

Here’s a few pics of today, sides are done to 800. There are a couple low spots to spray once more. The part where the rear cabin wall connects to the hull turned out great, I was a bit worried we would see a outline of the wall thru the hull but that’s not the case.
I was able to remove half the gel coat from the bottom of hull today with a 40 grit pad.94294370-4390-4167-8BC7-127F5E2EF5AA.jpegD23AF21D-BE0E-4E0D-B883-C4A25783794A.jpegC1728CB0-C385-4958-9DFA-1038D0A5F610.jpeg62DD22C6-C91A-4779-B55D-812446836040.jpegD9A75753-BB48-46EA-B5E0-9D27E068B9F5.jpeg8CF23D6F-E702-4F7B-B388-31DA73F20295.jpegB5975773-310B-4311-980F-32B1B77E9FF2.jpeg

I think the trim you bought may be too big for your boat and could be very hard to install. But please prove me wrong. The effort your putting into this is amazing and hopefully rewarding.
