Commander 26 Re Build

"No Material Shortages"...if I had a buck for every time I heard "material shortages" in the past year I'd be a king! Clearly, the SSTR branded Commander has not been subject to the same plague. Rock on.

So here’s where we are at with the tank.Few things I adjusted to make it fit. At first I had no clearance between the tank and the floor towards the front bulkhead. The boat naturally starts to curve up around that area and the tabbing on the bulkhead was a bit excessive. I do want my tanks as far up as possible and not really interested in bringing them back a few inches. Ended up Grinding out a bit of the excess tabbing from the front bulkhead… that helped a bit. Then I removed the factory cardboard LoL, set up the floor after it was cut and had a few guys anchor it down while I jumped around on it …. No ticking, and that’s without glass. Looks like it’s figured out. Thanks @shiphappens for the offer, but I would rather not drill or cut that tank if I don’t have to. I do have a pod that needs a few pieces weld on if your looking for work ;)

Now that the floor looks good, started to resin the ply and can’t wait to lay it downView attachment 81325View attachment 81326View attachment 81327View attachment 81328View attachment 81329View attachment 81330View attachment 81331

Glad you have it figured out. No I am not looking for work lol

Tanks are in and the first pour is on. Poured 2 nice strips lengthwise along the edges and dropped the tanks in. The tanks started to raise after a minute or two (not sure how long ,time stopped LoL). Scrambled to throw a bunch of weight on to stop them from rising even more and it did the trick.
Finally something besides fibreglass is on the boat!!!!!
Both tanks look great and sit even. Time to cover up these stringers.
I’m liking this foam, even knocking on the outside of the hull where the foam is has a different sound…. I’m thinking of foaming the entire boat now, I’m pretty close anyways 78B23EB5-A00A-4226-8780-BC0A9221BA74.jpeg5FBFE666-93DC-48D4-88AF-7DC4611F630E.jpegE3DF40D6-F6F3-4C22-9D4C-6BBAC8805100.jpegC9BE0E2D-DB5D-42B2-B400-F32A9743FB57.jpeg66D490A7-BB51-4440-9BA5-E511A5E87878.jpeg8F84C1D9-8257-4DA3-B2B3-8C226A5E8215.jpeg9743B0EE-9525-44A4-9BEB-B7CDA41F69EF.jpegB9D9089C-F0DB-49FE-A2FC-C5837BA6BF29.jpeg908F11CA-D41E-4D0D-99BF-021FA2573D8F.jpeg

Who cares about today!
The floor is going on tomorrow!!!!!

But here’s some pics of the prep work for the floor. Had to finish the hull with some mat and roving on the couple spots that where not done yet and put strips on both side of the hull. Made a couple small pours to get comfortable for tomorrows foam party.
And yes Ron will be here tomorrow to sign…

Here’s where we’re at today, prepped and cleaned the floor…. Again LOL , I’m going to have to start walking around in socks. Sealed up everything with a touch of corebond and foam. Started the bow with 2 mat. The floor is solid even without the mat, no noises at all, no hollow sounds anywhere. I’m super happy with the way the foam turned out. I know I got pretty much every square inch( besides the tops of the tanks)by the way the floor warmed up when the foam was expanding. It’s hard to tell but most of those previous pics where taken in the process of it expanding and the floor was quickly laid down and secured.
I do want another major visual change to the boat and am going to push Ron to paint water line up asap. We have been plugging away at it and hope to be happily surprised when we go over our progress this week, will post some pics. I’m pretty sure by now the entire boat has been done with 40 grit.023A0018-2C3D-4541-985B-67FF80D5BE6B.jpegAB1F20EC-AD83-4D04-8BA5-9825B47C4C72.jpegA0123256-D983-4665-A02A-B2FE957DEDE0.jpeg

Awesome work. Wouldn't you want a normal load of fuel and gear then put the boat in the water, mark the water line with whatever, then haul out and paint on the waterline exactly where it should be?
You've been meticulous so far...

Thanks,
Ya….. I’m just getting excited with the boat and keep telling Ron I want something painted besides the transom.
There are a few options moving forward on how we will paint her. One of Ron’s thoughts was to gel coat the entire boat, then launch her to check the waterline.
Maybe painting her deck will be enough to satisfy me for now, that way I can mount windows and rails….
I’m not sure which way we will process water line down, right now Ron is most comfortable with using gel coat, but exploring other options

You could always spray the gel a little lower than where you think the waterline will be and then float it and get the waterline right. Nothing kills the look of a beautiful boat like a botched waterline. There’s no other way than floating the boat with full fuel/water/gear to get it perfect.
