Commander 26 Re Build

The original foam appeared super dry except for the fuel on the bottem. I figured this set up lasted this long and is good to build it again the same way.
However I do have way smaller gaps now and there might be something better to secure the tank with.

Wow :(
Sorry to hear about your tank, thanks for sharing, I’m always open to any advice from previous experiences you guys had, And hopefully avoid a few mistakes !
We have been securing with tabs rather than foaming.

Secured mine with tabs as well. Never really understood the need or reasoning behind wanting to spray foam around a gas tank.

Love the point about sealing the rubber completely instead of running a couple beads. Securing the tank with tabs sounds like it’s going to involve screwing hardware into my stringers, where I’m limited with room although I’m sure there’s a good spot to mount tabs
Funny I been also advised not to quickly paint my fuel tank, but install it the way it is. Been told that a quick paint job can trap condensation between the paint and tank.
No where on the old tank did I see any signs of weakness or corrosion between the foam and tank. The tank failed from poorly sealed pick up tubes outside the cabin only in that one spot. The water tank was also foamed in and looked new when I removed it. Adding all that together makes me comfortable installing the tank with foam.

When I removed the fuel tank, I also found totally dry cut cardboard boxes on top of the fuel tank. Not a sign of moisture E146C1F0-0227-4C61-B9F8-7E4E5F7651B1.jpeg

You can paint the tank with an epoxy primer just scuff it up really well first then acetone and rag wipe down and go for it if there is going to be water draining from the cabin underneath it it’s not a bad idea.
