A RHD that are hard to come by and are expensive to acquire. #3 defensemen with solid numbers who should be a nice fit for Hughes. #2 PP specialist as well. Age 25, 6’0 190 pounds. Points this year 9 goals, 29 assists, +8. $4.5m RFA 2024 season.
So big picture, Horvat and a 2nd for Hronek, Beauvillier, Raty and a 4th 2023 is what it is. I think I would make that trade all day long. Clearly the Canucks are not going to wait 3-4 years for defensemen to develop so hopefully some more stuff is on the horizon. Myers and BB6 for bait maybe?
Perhaps; and you make some good points, but this trade is causing a lot of controversy with the talking heads on the various hockey channels.
Many think it was way too expensive and is a retooling move rather than a rebuilding move.
Over the next 2 years they had 3 first round picks and 2 second round picks and now they are down to 2 first round picks and 1 second.
This trade also makes their cap problem worse and it looks like now they will be underwater yet again next year. They should be freeing up cap space to pay for the rebuild, the dam Miller contract and the up-comming Peety contract. Trading, Miller, Meyer, OEL, Besser and Garland could help that.
This is a player that will help them win more games immediately, now that they are meaningless and continue the Canuck's perpetual pattern of winning a lot of games once they are out of the playoffs and screwing up their draft odds yet again, especially in this great draft year which has the most new talent in decades. There is also a rumor that he was very recently injured.
It's done now, so no matter where you stand on it, lets hope this guy is the best scoring defenseman since Bobby Or.
I am still pissed big time from them choosing to keep Miller over Horvat. Horvat has 5 goals since he left the Canucks. How many does Miller have in that time frame? Miller has 20 goals total so far, Horvat has 36 and even Peety only has 28. Horvat has not yet reached his peak and is getting better every year. Horvat is good at all aspects of the game and you won't find him hurting his team by pissing off the officials and getting an Unsportsmanlike Penalty. I wonder what the odds are that they will be able to trade Miller for a 1st and 2nd round draft pick in the next 2 or three days?
Lets also remember that if Demko gets injured again or does not make it back to his former ability, they are going to need a franchise goalie and that could cost them a 1st round pick at some point. So far Demko looks good, so hopefully they don't overplay him again next year and get him re-injured.
