2025 OFFISHALL Vancouver- Howe Sound-Sechelt Fishing Reports Thread

How was the evening bite out there?
Caught 4 fat chinook (managed two into the boat and lost the other two about 20 feet away from the boat) around 7 PM... all in the 75-85cm range. Caught them in the harbour close to the second mile marker in about 170 FOW and 60 feet on the riggers. Herring on one side and an irish cream spoon on the other. That was the best action we saw all day and it came right at the end as we were starting to pack up.

Great afternoon at T10. Launched from McDonald Beach around 2 to fish the high tide. Parking lot was only about 2/3 full. A bit choppy from the end of the jetty out to T10, but it then calmed down through the afternoon. Lots of boats out, but not as many as I thought there would be, and everybody gave lots of room so pretty easy driving. The bite was steady for the first hour and a half, then died down. Netted a 66 cm on a spoon, and a 70 and 80 cm on bait, all whites. Just to the inside of T10 was our hotspot fishing between 80-110 feet deep. Wrapped up about 6, when we hooked this unwanted "bycatch", who grabbed the anchovy on the surface as we were winding in.

After being unhooked it flew off with some loud squawks. Also noticed that T10 is looking a little worse for wear. Looks like it had a fight with a barge or something bigger than it....

Was out opening day at Sandheads with the wife and my son. Got a nice teener right off, and then got checked out by DFO. DFO were very courteous and we were on our way. Got a beast of a wild coho, released. Lost a hog, then another teener. Then went quiet for a while. Had a big one break me off using my father-in-law's old Hardy reel. Should've changed out the line! Later, a boat with a group of young guys came close to us as the were jigging. I guess they came too close as they broke off a couple of giant illegal jigs on my cannon ball. Hooks with barbs and on one, 4 hooks! We fished herring all day with no pinks! Both springs were reds. 20250901_172503.jpg

Was pretty steady yesterday too,

Sand heads , never got why people would fish t10 when your that close to sand heads .

Also , orcas just showed up…
T10? less traffic on opening day, also it was a holiday for most which adds to the boat traffic, less pinks to get through to reach the chinook. Personally, I will hit sand heads this week but it was planned to stay away on day one. T10 was very busy, but boats were really spread out.

I couldn't believe the pack at T10 as I cruised by laughing. I agree that there is zero need to be in that BS this early in September. I don't care how courteous or spread out everyone is, it's comical. I was nowhere near another boat yesterday, didn't even have to watch out or stay in line. Besides, I can only do my super secret East West tack if I'm willing to fight, or well away from the rest of the sheep.

Think of the amount of ocean area these fish are migrating in from, and then the 1 square mile (or less) that most everyone packs into at the mouth. Half them are rookies so you can’t blame em, but still kinda funny.
These fish hold for at least a few weeks in probably a 2 mile by 10 mile area, no need to cluster up. The fresher fish are further out anyways.

There’s a reason the guys who do it every day for a living fish in a couple football field size area , fish aren’t just stacked out in 250’ .

It is like a party where everyone ends up in the kitchen.

Crazy jigs! I actually bought similar ones from AliExpress...you can order them in all kinds of sizes and colours and many come without any hooks.

Fished opening day- started at QA what was great on Saturday late morning- was a slow start second guessing my decision to stay away from the herd then starboard side was absolutely hammered by a pig.
I fought it to the surface about 40-50 feet back of the boat and was pretty much freaking as it was the biggest chinook I have had on in a long time… the adrenaline was definitely pumping, and I feel like I probably lightened up a little bit too much on the fish instead of horsing it straight to the boat and in a flash, it was like a subtle head turn and IMG_7349.jpegIMG_3629.jpegIMG_3621.jpegthe hook popped- !?$#%
Moved back south a couple K for another troll with the wind and managed to blunder another pair. OMG, some kind of weird juju on the boat. Ended up winning and losing on some pinks and then finally ended up further south of T 10 and managed a couple decent Chinook couple wild Cohoes, couple socks and a few more pinks finished up with a long troll back to the harbour was just pink at that point really weird day for me But all in all ended up a great day!
