2025 OFFISHALL Vancouver- Howe Sound-Sechelt Fishing Reports Thread

Pushed off at 6:30 from West Van and hit Sandheads at around 7:15. Brought a cornucopia of bait sizes expecting relentless pink action. Three of us fished hard and stopped after 2 hours. 4 chinook (3 reds,1 white, all 70-85 cm and beautiful) and 5 pinks. Fishing deeper helped avoiding the pink show. Anywhere in the 80-110 zone. Surprised at how many people with their heads looking in other directions except forward with the number boats in the area. Took off at 9:30 and had the cleaning table to ourselves. Cleaned up and in our cars by 11. Hope the day goes without incident for all. It was a great opening day.

Got our limit, 8 to 11 at SH. Let a few pinks go, an undersized chinook and broke one off right away. Think it was around the cable. Anchovies got 5, Herring the other. 50 feet or so. 4 reds and a couple marble. Real nice day out there with a couple thousand friends.

God I love opening day...

RCMP followed us into Milltown and checked our catch. Looked like they were hanging out for a bit. Very nice people and even let my buddy go with a screenshot of his license with a pdf editor catch log. Nicely showed him how to register his license properly on the app. Great to see them out there.

Got out to t10 around 8 am and the bite was hot for about an hour 2 quick ones on small herring. Lost a beauty nice one ion a medium medium herring. Then let a few pinks go and a beautiful sockeye that took a herring. Sucked letting that one go.

Then as the current picked up the bite faded around 930. A few more loops around t10 area and scratched a foot ball 15lb ish one.

Had a bite that I thought was a pink so gave the rod to my son he was happy and it ended up being a small hatch coho.

Decided not to run down to sandheads and instead headed in around noon.

2 white males, 1 red female

70 feet in the rigger worked well for us. Pinks seemed to leave us alone for the most part

Need one more for our 6 so might not. Thanks everyone that reached out
Pretty active day for us. Couldn’t get away from the pinks, and ended up getting 4 of the springs on spoons after the pinks ate all the chovies. Rain City if ur reading this I ended up breaking one of my Fury’s too.

What in the hell. That's brutal man. Nice work on the fish though!

With all the opening day craziness aside.. what's with all the boat outboards with the brand decals removed.... had to ask one and responded bought it that way.
Branding backlash..?

I know all my Yamahas decals are peeling and I’m tempted to pull them off. Maybe that’s partly why?

Ran over from Sidney and dropped gear around 7am. Probably lost 10 springs and released a few wild coho and lost a hatchery at the boat that was barely hooked. Tons of pinks. Kept 5 for the smoker and 4 springs in the teens. Kids had a blast on the rods with all the action. Had one screamer that straightened a treble off the clip. Didn’t even get my hands on the rod.

Had a great opening day! Got up early but didn’t make it to SH until about 7:45. My wife is not one to be hurried along…. Lost one early at the boat and then quiet until another boat is yelling you’ve got a fish on - I’m looking around to see which boat wasn’t paying attention and quickly realized it was us! We ended up landing a nice 85 cm fish - big thanks to the guys in a Hewescraft (I think). After that it was feeding the pinks and then a nice double header which with 2 people at SH is kind of crazy. Got them both a 82 and a 68. Then a while later a 71 in shallower water. All on chovies because that’s all I fish at SH. I do have some massive herring which I’ll try maybe next time. I’m getting pretty good at intentionally losing pinks at the boat!

Our 2012 Vrods faded pretty bad. Got them wrapped. Not sure buying a couple decal kits is worthwhile.
