Dumb question as I never fish winters. Is there a max size out there right now?

No max. Just minimum 62cm

Should also add there was a humpback cruising around in English Bay, surfaced about 40' from us and kept going in towards Kits Beach. Did a number of 'waves' to us with it's tails as came by. We were having a drink at RVYC after and could still see it's mist from the blow hole and the tail wave straight out from the club amongst the freighters.

Pro D day so dragged and kid and friend out to the bell for a few hours. Great bite when we dropped in around 10:30-noon just off the bell and then we had a tough time finding keepers. Not gonna complain about three nice keepers and some crab to go along with it tho. Hootchies near bottom in 100-120 was where we got our keepers until it died off.

Well not a bad day out there. Dropped in at 10:40 by marker 2. Fish on 2 minutes later in 100 FOW. Pulled off quite a bit of line. Seemed like a good fish. Lost it. Ended up with a bunch of undersized fish. Dang. Action was mostly on the homeland security spoon/flasher combo just off bottom. Managed to get a decent sized keeper around 3pm by the bell. Stunning day on the water for sure.

Perfect flat crossing both ways today, started at the Grande, worked my way east across the flat tops and then towards Thrasher. Unreal action all day, 5 keepers to the boat (2 kept) a ton of unders and a couple good ones lost. Not many stretches of having both rods down today, was running back and forth all day. Busiest winter fishing day I’ve ever had. First go at Prawn or crab in that area, and found some.

Just be careful prawning in "that area has lots of closed zones" 17-5, 17-6, 17-9 to 17-13, 17-15, 17-16, 17-18

Recreational prawn and shrimp harvesters are advised that the harvest of prawns and shrimp by trap, ring net, or spear while diving, will close from 00:01 January 1, 2025, to 23:59 March 31, 2025, in the following Subareas as described in the Pacific Fishery Management Area Regulations:

Subareas 13-1, 13-12 to 13-17 (Quadra/Cortes Islands);
Subareas 15-1 to 15-3 (Powell River / Lund);
Subareas 16-1, 16-2, 16-5 to 16-11, 16-16 to 16-18 (Malaspina Strait / lower Jervis Inlet and Sechelt / Salmon Inlets);
Subareas 17-5, 17-6, 17-9 to 17-13, 17-15, 17-16, 17-18 (Nanaimo and portion of Stuart Channel);
Subareas 19-7 to 19-12 (Saanich Inlet);
Subareas 23-1, 23-2, 23-3 and 23-4 (Alberni Inlet / Barkley Sound);
Subareas 25-1 to 25-5, 25-8, 25-16 (Tahsis/Muchalat Inlets); and
Subarea 28-3 (portion Howe Sound).
