Oh I got my 5 bags ready for pick up. I don’t care what y’all say… I pick thru the best 20% or so and those will catch chinook just as well as the fancy $20 packs of 8
The rest for cod/crab/prawn. Bait for the whole season.

Totally agree. Especially as it's a pink salmon year, I use the herring instead of anchovies to keep the smaller pinks off my hooks. Better targets the chinooks come Sep

How do you store the bait? Do you pack in trays and vacuum seal?

The good ones for salmon I vacuum pack in bags of 8, slightly pre-salted.
Big ones for cod/hali go into ziploc bags of 10-12.
The rest get chopped up and mixed with prawn pellets, in my traps I use one canister of pellets only, and one herring/pellet mixture.

Takes a bit of time but then it’s ready to go all season long.

Do you throw a roll of 6-8 into a crab trap bait cage?

Do you grind up the herring for prawn bait or just a little fine chopping ?

Sounds good. Thanks for the reply!

I've tested herring vs anchovies side by side on a few outings. I used herring on my rig and anchovies on buddy's (he insisted). He caught mostly shakers and 1 good spring. All the fish I caught were legals and a few really good ones. These days I only use herring, for that reason. This sale is great for stocking up......
