2025 Bamfield and Barkley Sound Reports

Hello all, new to the forum as I’m headed up to Bamfield for the first of many trips I hope. I’ve started using Maruto semi barbless hooks. They’re legal here in the U.S West Coast barbless fisheries. They’re a little thicker than Gamakatsu. They’ve worked really well at Westport the last few weeks. Hopefully, when I get up there next Tuesday I can put the map to all the reports on this forum. Thanks for the info. Tightlines
I can't say that I know what a semi barbless hook is. Best it is fully barbless when fishing up here.

After checking out the Maruto hooks, they look perfectly fine. REMEMBER , the whole idea of barbless hooks is to be able to release juvenile fish without damaging the fish. So it would still be an issue with some of the gung ho DFO cowboys. I'd use them if I had them and gladly go to court if need be. Hope the reports improve as I'll be in Bamfield on Tuesday! Good luck everyone !!

I'm pretty sure you'll get a fine for using those in Canadian Waters. I wouldn't use them. Those hooks will certainly do more damage to a fish when you release it. Isn't that a good enough reason to not use them.

Coming up Thursday for 5 days (just in time for the monsoon by the looks of it) does anyone have any kind of positive reports? Lots of doom and gloom and silence compared to normal for this time of year. Is the bloom still an issue?

Just arrived and the bloom still appears to be around. Heard that the fishing is steadily improving though.

I’ll be heading up this weekend for our yearly trip. Same time every year. Seems we always make it during the week of heavy rain. It has helped in the past move fish inside and clear out the bloom. Hoping the inside starts picking up 🤞
I'll be up there from Thursday to Sunday if you want to chat.

Started at pill point and landed a bunch of smalls and one good coho on skinny g gold herring aid, left to diplock and was slow there. Ran to Fleming, Sanford got 2 springs around 12 and one at 16. All on skinny g no bananas and gold herring aid. Plus more smalls. Couldn't get hoochies to work or plug or bait. 73 and 55 were my best numbers. Water is full of crap from full moon high tides. Scrounged out a morning but wasn't what i'm used to out there for sure. Good luck!!

From swale, not me, but a friend fishing

Yes this fire is pretty gnarly seeming, over 600 hectares in hours, rank 5 no aircraft is stopping that. People out today way should be planning and preparing for disruption. Hoping bam town doesn’t stay effected fir to long and we get the rains
