‘Had a great day off Esquilmalt with ‘’Original” (Don) who graciously answered my cry for help. After 1 hour or more trolling between Saxe point and Macaulay with no success, he told me a story of getting fish just at the back of some Container ships . We went along side one and as soon as we got to the stern got a hit ( 50 cm chinook ) and repeated it 2 more times , all 3 times just right at the stern. Got 4 good size Dungeons and 1 Red rock . Thanks again Don !

Headed out of esquimalt friday morning for a few hours. Seven year old daughter reeled in her first and second salmon ever for a proud dad moment - she was pumped. Just off bottom in 120ft of water with a cop car spoon and pink-striped flasher was the ticket again today. Threw the tackle box on the other line without a hit. Weather was great, the debris in the water was not. Crabbing was poor, but that may have been the questionable bait. Hoping for another break in the weather before the new years!

Opted for whirl bay yesterday. Good choice I guess. 2 bites back to back. 14lb and 6lb. Weighed the 14.
Saw very little bait and very little action on any boats. Short bite when the tide shifted a bit.
Coming up on one year reunion with a 14lb winter spring… going for it again?!

Don is a class act all the way! You’re lucky to know him as am I!

Anyone trying squid fishing out front?

Headed out with my 7 year old salmon slayer daughter and a friend with a similar aged son out of esquimalt today. Although the winds were calm, the seas were not. Dropped the traps and did a few laps near the launch, but the crew soon turned green. Caught one shaker, but no action otherwise. After a short soak, we had some hefty crabs to make it a productive day. Probably shoud have gone to the inlet for prawns, but if this is the second guess for the day, life is good.
