DFO did it again....here is the latest announcement regarding a SRKW closure coming our way for this Summer (Aug 1st - Sept 30th). This will have a huge impact if we have an opportunity to fish Sockeye. I haven't been able to get the exact way points yet to see how far off and down it actually extends.

Seems like the only opportunity to fish is the winter .

least its not a complete closure from the north arm down to the south arm still looks like you can still fish the t10 area down from the north arm

They’ll take that away next year. Their strategy is to get people thinking oh that’s still open……..let’s be thankful…………as they chip away at taking it all away one piece at a time. That Survey we all did was a freaking joke.

I dont mean to derail this thread,and i know it can be placed in a different forum,but its constant blame without forsight to the global picture.I realize that we are all heavily vested in our sport,IMO it's typical of the government to put these issues on us,the little guys,as though it's our fault that the fishery has collapsed,yet giant draggers and seiners are raping the ocean with no real regulation catching everything in the ocean with no repercussions as to all the by catch that is unceremoniously thrown back as though it is garbage,killing all the bio diversity in the Oceans world wide yet we are the target as the culprits for the downfall of our local fishery,,it's typical of governments to take the easy target as they are either having there pockets lined by big industry or they just turn a blind eye because they may actually have to do work to make change,not just our government but all governments. The reality is that none of us own the Oceans it's not anyone's right to rape and pillage it yet it happens every hour of every day it's obviously going to continue and no amount of posturing or lobbying is going to change the fact that big money runs the planet so nothing will ever change because the fat cats need to get fatter and no cost is ever to great,whether it be fisheries,forestry,oil,pharmaceutical,chemical companies,any and all big industry cares not of the outcome as long as there ceo's are making bank and the stock holders are happy it's all that matters. Just one man's opinion

Yep same idea. Forecast looks ok for a smooth crossing this afternoon.

No this is the first time not doing that. Won’t ever do that again. Still tasty as hell but was getting impatient so cranked it up a bit the last hour .
now back to the ling report . Anyone having some fresh fish and chips? I’m free for any split fuel costs after the 12th whether we take my boat or hop on yours to cross the ditch

No luck at all with chum yet all. So run across (got bit bumpy as crossed) and picked up a big ling each - near Gabriola; bottom bouncing & drift fishing in 110 feet water, with whole - last years - bit freezer burned - super jumbo herring - but they didn't care. Easy catches & nice size fish. Weather was picking up fast, so caught cod (was going thang try salmon - nope!) , turned around right away, and ran hard back with waves on our tail. Couple of scary moments when tried to cross +6 foot waves at too much of an angle, and the surf caused boat to swerve really hard at speed, dishes and tackle flying about . So kept angle down, and was big wave surfing all the way home, double fisted on the wheel. Bit tense, but nice load of cod for the freezer and pan at least. Note that the big ling bellies were full of smaller partially digested lingcod. Lazy cannibals!

Came over last night, on the water today for 15 hours, from 5am til just now lol, 2 nice lings, a couple rockfish, 100 prawns (about 20 biggest I’ve ever seen) and a few nice Dungeness. Same story as Old Deckhand, the dirty old massive herring did the trick. Was all the way from north Galiano to Navy channel, great day on the water.

My thoughts every time I’ve seen these marks. And I’ve seen a lot over the years. I don’t think there’s any other explanation as I’ve seen one that still looked very raw, so they are definitely from punctures to the skins

Look forward to this time of the year when all the berried ones release there eggs, prawned all last week went hard on getting The Jumbo's, hit the regular holes that held mostly jumbos, some area's had a mix bag... some good lunches and smoked salmon snacks, always taste incredible
