Youre not the only one who doesn't get the point of those posts. Its basically "asking for it". Not sure what there is to gain, but pretty clear what there is to lose.
Fishing legally is the way it should be, assuming it might change DFO s thinking is irrelevant and in that case maybe theyll shut it all down irregardless. I havent been able to figure out DFOs science in 35 years but always fished by the guidelines and muddies are still allowed last time I checked in Jan

How’s prawning and crabbing these days? 9 more days until the commercial bombers get out on the water.

Some of the areas I was hitting in December seem to have turned off. Jumbos are there but few and far between. They must have all moved since the spawn becuase man did I throw a lot back before this. I did a couple overnight sets this past weekend to stock the freezer but thought I would have done a lot better. Didn't seem much better than my 4-6 hour sets. Could have been the big tides this weekend as well

I was out a couple of weeks ago. Had one set in 300’ and another set in 380. The deeper traps were full of shrimps and small prawns. The other set had a dozen of jumbos and some descent size prawns. This year, I didn’t manage to get out as often as I liked but overall, it was an Ok season. Still not as productive as 2020 but consistent with last year.

I'm sure admin is going to shut this down any minute.

I'd be cautious posting about catch and release fishing of any kind. Whether it be Grey area or not. Our enemies will use it against us. They will say the mortality rate is 20% and that we are just harassing fish for fun. Not food.
Again , DFO science , 20% ??? Oh you mean when the over populated seals get 19% of them. I would like to see the independent scientific reports supporting that statement, more propaganda. If everyone was forced to catch and release even by DFO science that would leave 80% more fish, wouldn't it :)

With respect, you are proving how misinformation perpetuates. Please look up the regulations.
@ab1752 and @Rain City are right. It's the same regs as last year and it's no fishing for chinook in the majority of area 29-3,4,5.
Unfortunately for us, 'reading the regs' means more than looking at the species status on the dfo site, or the fishingBC app. We also need to go to through all the announcements and make sure our target species isn't affected. In your photo of the dfo site see where it says "see restrictions"? We'll if you follow that you will see that chinook in most of area 29 3,4,5 is in fact closed. The guide boats are there because they have a special permit to collect data.
Not trying to be argumentative, but you come across as pretty aggressive when it is in fact you who 'didn't read the regs'. We gotta stick together here fellas.

Here's the link to the notice.

Thanks for your info. The most recent map similar to the one you posted shows Chinook closed until Aug 31, then 2 fish per day Sept 1st to Dec 31st. See attached.

I was clear in my posts on what I was targeting, chum and pink. As well, the areas that say closed to chinook can still be fished for other species that are open, according to the regulations and restrictions in that same area, and I hope everyone understand this.

One of my contacts has defended fishermen against DFO for decades, here is what he shared with me:

It is common for DFO to open an area for one species while closing it to another. Just keep out of areas "closed to all species". If you catch and keep a closed species, then you can (and should) be prosecuted, but "no problem if released".

This is what gets missed with the contradiction between the "Species Regulations" and the "Restrictions".

If someone wanted to ask me privately or possibly warn me, a private message could have been sent, especially when we know each other, but the attempted keyboard shaming method was used instead. That's not how fellas stick together, and it pi**ed me off.

First off, I was generalizing. Not calling you an idiot. There are lots of guys on all platforms posting these reports. Sorry if I offended you. Second, I think your friend is wrong. Otherwise why would there be non-retention areas listed as well? Also, why would the guides go through all the effort to make sure they're collecting data and saying that in their reports and advertising. I agree it's not very clear but there is a difference in regs between the two areas in 29-3

Hey man if you dish it you gotta take it..
Yes your map is correct. Chinook closed until Sept 1.
I think the point that was trying to be made was that if we C&R for chinook in area where it's closed (even if we say we're targeting pinks/chum), DFO might look at this and say, hmm well that didn't stop people from catching chinooks, and shut the whole thing down to all species.
Sorry if I offended you

You did not offend me.

We’re all frustrated with this never-ending issue of contradictory and poorly worded fishing regulations. Plus, our boats are sitting idle at the dock in the prime “spring time” and we can’t talk about c&r.
May 1st is only a few days out. If you got the boat to cross the street and fish for lings, you just need to watch the weather forecast and take a day off work. For those who don’t, it’s going to be another long and boring summer with not much to report on this thread.

Well you could report catch and release from West of Gower.

How about this? Let’s make this thread read-only between April-September just so our fishing opportunities remain as great as they are today. I don’t know why admin can’t make this happen?

Lots of numbers in here. Hard to make sense of. Which was kinda my point. Enemies will pick a number and run with it. Reality won't matter. They want 100% of the fish, not 80% unfortunately.
