What's for dinner tonight ?

Went to Safeway today for $5 Fridays and bags some deals. Our bill was $164 which included 31 items. Our savings this trip $152 or 49%
As noted on the invoice:
-Buddig Turkey and Honey Ham (1.5lb packages) $13.79 sale $5 each.
-CH loin strip steaks, and 3 steaks in our family package reg price $75.39. Sale price $23.70
-Honey garlic and general Tso boneless wings fresh out of the frier, reg price $13.07. sale price $5.45. There was a line up to get them at the hot from the deli.

Dinner

1.5lb steak was tender a flavorful, Purple Okinawa potato, yellow potato, grill zucchini, garlic toast and salad. I could only eat ½.

We roasted red potatoes, sweet potatoes, butternut squash, onions, garlic, carrots, green beans, green peppers, and celery on a sheet pan with some olive oil. While that was in the oven I made a roux with olive oil, butter, flour, milk, and chopped sage, rosemary, and parsley. Mixed it all together with leftover Costco roasted chicken, the covered with pastry.
All the veg and herbs came from the garden.

My own personal tradition is to spend the evening of Remembrance Day hunting solo.
It is my personal time to reflect on the many from my own Family Line that served - the ones that did not come home, and those that did forever changed.

And my time to thank them for what they endured such that I have been able to live my life in the manner I have.
Something I have done for decades, and something I will be doing again this very evening.

Dinner plans hold until I get back from that, so likely a tad late.

Hunting on Rememberance day was a tradition for me too Nog. I used to find a spot where I could sit, glass the timber edge and put my back against a tree and my butt on a moss blanket and keep track until the 11, 11, 11 . time arrived. It was my time to contemplate what might have been if my father had not been killed on Dec 13th 1943 in Italy. The battle for Ortona. I know now that the hunt on that special day was my way to spend a few hours in contemplation . I have put my guns aside now as my eyes are not what they should be to pick out that grey/brown and white shadow in the fern beds at the timbers edge. But I had a treat yesterday when a heavy 3x3 showed up in my property to check out
" the girls" I hope his search ends well.

BC salmon rub with some extra demarara brown sugar on marbled chinook. So buttery smooth with that extra fat. Chives, spinach and dressing. Salmon and brown sugar is magical.

Passed on a big mature 2 point last night.
Trailing 3 flatheads, neck super sized, and totally oblivious to me.
Don't need the meat much after the moose, close to dark, rutted up... Pass.
Most years he would have come home.
Overly fussy this year as I don't really want to burn any deer tags until late archery whitetail season.

Din-din was a stuffed partridge, stuffing, squish and a fine Merlot.

Tonight moose burgers again.

School was cancelled yesterday (power outage), so the kid and I made a bunch of food.
Squash soup, homemade bread for toasted salmon melts, and her pick of rocky road cookies for dessert

Made a big batch of pasta sauce today. Tomatoes, peppers, carrots, zukes and lobster mushrooms. Over a little ground beef and sausage. Fresh bread to go with it

Ribeye stuffed yorkshires

I had that a week ago, was the lunch special at a local pub. They added veges and oversized the Yorkie. Super good!

Kicked up Nashville Chicken burgers with kicked up double roasted cast iron potatoes. Nashville burger with homemade dill pickles and homemade creamy honey garlic mustard sauce. Potatoes kicked up with sauteed onions, homemade smoked bacon, peppers, chili pepper, chipotle powder, seasonings, melted habanero jack cheese and garnished with green onion and sour cream. Spinach salad has dates, strawberries, candied pecans, feta cheese, red onion and citrus vinaigrette. Served up with an ice cold frosty Witbier.
