Fished hard thid morning at the mouth of the cap, bait on bottom just like what had been killing it for me 3 weeks ago.. Not a single taker. Saw 1 chum landed by another boat on what lookid like green flasher/chovy combo. He was running 4 rods as well. At least we didn't get skunked, look at my friend Steve posing with this beauty!!

The Salty Dawg hit a few today over there but only managed to land a wild Coho and a 14 lb Chinook.

FM....you can't do that to the kid; he'll "imagine" halibut and spend the coming weeks in amongst the freighters with 4 rods down workin' spreader bars in search of the "species I'm talking about".
You really gotta spell it out for the little fella.

Looks like you called it Pippen. Apparently Demco was out lookin for Hali, although a little on the small side I'd say. Ha, Ha

Still a few Springs at the Cap. 2 for 3 for one boat...good work dude, my team went 0 for 3. Nice looking fish! Was just 5 boats out there, 3 were guide boats. It's going to be a BEAUTY of a day!

Was out at the Cap this a.m. from 830am to 1130 am.
Released a very dark mid teens spring and a beautiful undersized jack spring and kept one bright, chrome hatchery coho for dinner. Had one other good fish on and also had three dogfish ... does the dogfish fishery really need to be this sustainable?

Just out here now, light winds out of the SE and not a breath of wind. 2 15 inchers so far.

Well................no fish to speak of today,
we trolled west van for a couple hours between pink apt's and cap while we soaked the prawn traps
prawning was awesome today, not sure if it was my new bait cocktail or if I actually found the sweet spot.
pulled 250 keeper prawns on a 2 hour soak and threw back another 50 berried ones best prawn day I have ever had

Ok guys, I think I need some help on this winter chinook fishery,
since this will be the first winter with the boat in the water and really my first whole hearted attemp at winter springs.
I'm not really sure what differs from the summer to the winter setups, I read where some say shorten up the leader as short as 28" and no flasher.
some say keep the cannon ball bouncing in the mud and others say just last 1/3 of the column.
I intend on sticking it to vancouver, Bowen and howe sound area's just need some help getting started I guess,
also a little confusing is the regs on winters, the min size limit is said to be 62cm with a daily limit of 2 and only 1 over 62cm this kind of contradicts itself doesn't it?
maybe I'm just not reading it correctly,
anyways any help is always appreciated

some pointers
62 cm minimum size limit, 2 per day if you still have room on your license and you're not at the 15 fish annual limit. I agree with the bottom 1/3 of the water column and bouncing cannonballs in the mud.
As for lures, primarily spoons, then hoochies, then bait would be my order of operations for winters. Bait just isn't necessary. I never go shorter than 4 feet on my spoons. Usually 5 to 6 feet.
Hoochies with a 28 inch leader have produced well for winters. Allows you to fish it along with lighters spoons going slow. A buddy I know ties to 37 inches going fast. Match your hoochie leader length to your troll speed and make sure your hoochie is doing what it needs to be.
Concentrate on structure and finding the bait.
Get out there, be persistent, dress warmly, and put in your time.

Thanks FM, Some great info there, Unfortuneatly I do have room left on my liscence for springs
and I hope to change that some by the end of the year
something I found in the regs that changed Aug 1 untill Dec31 that I wasnt aware of
"•It is prohibited to use more than two single-pointed hooks in tandem (as when fishing with bait) in the waters of Burrard Inlet near the mouth of the Capilano River from the 14 St. Pier to Prospect Light on the seawall of Stanley Park to the north tower of the Lions Gate Bridge. Each hook must have a single point that measures no greater than 15 mm between the point and shank of the hook."
I usually run 1 treble and 1 stinger so I I'll have to tie some single point tandems if I'm going to use bait,
