The Industry is also facing pressure from FN groups who are asserting their rights on traditional territories. There are 3 fish farms in Esperanza Inlet. all of which have been closed down for production since the late spring. The FN groups in the area do not want them producing, and the nets have been out of the water, despite attempts to buy FN support. It could be very beneficial for the nets stay up on the decks through the spring migration of smolts, as outgoing young salmon from the Tahsis, Leiner, Canuma and a host of other small rivers and creeks in the area must pass right by those farms in the narrow inlet on their way to the open ocean.
