Beach bbq night with family from out o town. The conditions looked good so we figured we’d troll for a bit. 20-30 minutes at the spit we got a clipped spring. ( 11-12lbs)
Green and white spoon
We also got ours on a herring aid spoon but it was small, after yours there was no more bites and very little bait or fish on the finder. Glad you got one! The beach BBQ looked great and such a nice night for it!

Just freshly home from Nova Scotia. The jet lag had me wide awake at 4:30AM so I figured what the hell…one smaller coho lost mid-jump and this nice 77cm wild female for the BBQ tonight. Three runs to the boat with a hectic solo net job. It was so fun but would’ve been hilarious to watch 🤣

Oherwise pretty slow but the bite turned on around 10AM. A dozen or so boats in the open area east of Fairfax at 18-4. Cop Car got it done! 🚔 happy to break a dry spell for me!

I also found that obstruction by the spit. Noticed my lines all paid out and managed to haul lines and slowly use the rigger to pull me overtop in neutral. Crab float was submerged about 30’ under. I should’ve hauled it up but it slipped off the ball and I couldn’t get another pull on it. Luckily no gear lost.

Fished the Pender side of Moresby yesterday morning from 6:30 to noon. Caught a couple of Pinks early but that was it. Seems like Sidney has been very slow for Springs compared to the last few years at this time?

Last year seemed to have 2 weeks where Hamley seemed to have lots of fish. Maybe during the rains this weekend it will help again.

I put in a lot of fishless hours until finally getting a nice one so I agree! What depth where you getting pinks?

Thinking of heading up Sidney way this weekend, any recommendations on where to look for some salmon, not looking for exact spots just more general areas, depths and gear,
Etc. TIA

Keep an eye on all reports. I’d say Victoria is having a lot more success than Sidney these days.

Your best bet in Sidney is probably off Hamley or Fairfax. Small green spoons. A buddy got a couple the other day off Hamley at 45’ and 150’ so it seems like you have to keep mixing it up. It’s a grind.

So, having taken possession of my boat, I'm planning my first ever launch (assuming I can get the trailer out of our driveway🥵).

I was planning on launching at Tulista. It's an 18' aluminum with a 90 hp motor so it's not all that heavy. Can anyone tell me what kind of tide I need?

Thanks,
Dennis

I aim for about 2’. You could probably getaway with less but 2’ is safe.

Congrats on the boat purchase! Sounds like a good boat for the Sidney/Gulf Islands area.

Here’s a few tips for first launch at Tulista

1.) Go when it’s not busy. It’s a heavily used launch, especially on the weekends. Be prepared, and get there early morning. Better chance at close parking.

2.) If there are boats waiting to be launched, get in line and get the boat prepped for launch. Fenders out, dock lines at the ready. Make sure the PLUG IS IN. If you have someone with you, send them to the machine to pay parking/launch fees.

3.) At Tulista the dock to the south is for launching, the north is for retrieving, and the middle dock seems to handle the overflow. When it’s busy, it’s a ***** show. But just take a moment to observe the flow and anyone who is waiting to either launch or retrieve. Once you launch, walk the boat out to the deepest part of the dock and tie up. Park as quick as you can and hustle back, at this point you wanna free up the dock space as quick as possible.

4.) Retrieve on the north side (the side closest to the ferry dock). Again, watching for other boats that might already be lined up waiting. Tilt the motor up. Once the boat is on the trailer, pull all the way up and out of the way, next to the ticket machine, secure boat for travel.
