2025 OFFISHALL Vancouver- Howe Sound-Sechelt Fishing Reports Thread

Fished Sandheads from about 3:30 to 7:30 pm. Inconsistent a few pinks. 4 feeder springs on good one that broke off. Tried a bunch of different gear. The good spring hit on the full glow flasher and teaser head at 55 ft near the green can. Beautiful night but 10 fish to the boat seems slow when fishing has been so hot. Either way good day on the water.

Sept 12th report(apologies) Haven’t ever posted before but figured I’d report. T-10 at 90 feet. Bite came and went but as tide change rolled around the fishing picked up. Released a nice one and boxed 2. View attachment 121104
Good first post. No pressure, but you have to catch more and bigger fish as time goes on. The forum accepts nothing less.
I am of course making all that up.
Welcome aboard.

Not the lights out fishing this year for Chinook that we have experienced in past years. I noticed you also got into some hatchery, that’s just terrific that they’re here late like this. A great combination to go with the Chinook.
I'm glad you guys both mentioned this, I thought it was just something happening to me lol. I have been definitely finding it more of a challenge this year. But still fun of course :-)

I have to ask what you have been trying for gear and timing? To me this seems to be quite similar to the last couple of years as far as numbers of chinook being hooked for us. We are having much more success just with spoons and hootchies this year and deeper then we have fished prior years. I find there are so many pinks and coho around that their drive by hits that you don't see foul the bait roll and render is less productive. Seems the lures keep you fishing longer. Cause we see a lot of strikes on our lures that dont stick. Suspect they're pinks, but the lure keeps fishing. Bait on the other hand I've had them come up half bitten off or over curled not even knowing I had a bite. I only have been dropping the bait during slow times. Once bite turns on straight to lures.

Been fishing bait and having success, but as you said, a lot of work and down time.Don't want any details, specifics, but curious as to approximate
size and colours of spoons?

Just wondering is the prawning pretty much a write off in these months in Howe Sound? I do pretty well in the colder months but this is the first time trying in September for me. I tried in the same spots that were producing very well before, and got 1 prawn in each trap. Is it still recovering after the commercial season, or perhaps there is a depth change for the warmer months?

True it’s not as crazy as some of the recent years but still good fishing to be had out there. You just gotta dial in the timing a bit more. Seems like there was a good bite on the afternoon flood last week (which is disappearing now) and then today for example… low slack into the flood right at first light. Bite was on for a couple hours. Should be a solid morning bite for a few days.
And the outside fish seem to be a little deeper, probably avoiding all the pinks just like most of us are 😉
