My Garmin shows about a 5 mile difference from the red buoy at the entrance to False Creek to Sand Heads, vs to T10. In ugly weather, it can be a long 5 miles.

Yep, did that a couple times in a NW 15 in my old 14’ lake
boat tinny. Was not enjoyable lol

Light chop. 8 mph winds. Sunny. Fishable in a 16 ft Lund.

I’m sure many of us already know this, but I just want to share something that’s worked really well for me. Whenever I need to bring my line up whether it’s to check the bait or to wrap up fishing, I never reel in too quickly. Instead, I let the flasher rise to the surface first. Doing this gives fish hanging at different depths a chance to strike the lure or bait on the way up. It’s paid off for me several times, including just yesterday when I hooked a beautiful coho using this method.
Now back to the report.

Caught a spring at 280 At WH. Lost it but caught another as the spoon came up thru the water column. Lost that one and caught another one before it got to the surface. That one went in the box.

Pushed off this morning at 7am looking for a quick hit and run before an afternoon in the office. Emerged from the very light fog of the Sound and had a nice ride on glass across the bay on the way to SH. Dropped lines at 7:45 with a herring on 1 side and anchovy on the other fishing depths between 70 and 100 in 100-200 FOW. Trolled around with the more predictable boats for a bit but then couldn't resist poking our nose towards the green can. When we hit the point of having 8 boats in our forward 180 view with every bow pointed in a different direction we aborted and turned back to where we were. When all said and done we released 3 wild coho and an undersized feeder spring and boxed 3 white Chinook. 12, 14, and 21 lbs. Popped off the rods at 9:45 to bring in the gear and when the flasher was almost to the surface started pumping like a fish and ended the day swinging a sablefish over the rail. Decent size. Easily 5-6 portions the size you get at the Japanese sushi bar. Way more productive and successful than going into the office this morning.

Took my 77-year-old mom for her annual fishing adventure this afternoon to Sandheads. Fished 11:30 to 2:30 and it was wild coho city for us.

Lost a couple of fish on retrievals in the twisty currents. Landed one small slot chinook we let swim away, a few pinks and 8 or 9 really feisty coho in the 7-10 lbs range. They all also swam away for another day.

Spoon outperformed bait and deeper (75’ to 105’) was better than shallower. Most fish for us and other boats we noticed seemed to hit in pretty tight to the green buoy.

Fog burned off, sun came out, winds lay down for a nice ride home.

Home, so 19 hours. Fished 6:45 to 10:45.
Mackerel strip behind a flasher got 2 springs, a coho, a pink, and a sockeye. Extra large herring in a 602 Helmet with no flasher got the biggest chins. Tried a plug and Superior spoon after I was done. They worked too, but were slower than bait. No hatchery coho out of 5.
Done for salt now.

Fished Sandheads from 7:30 - 1:30 today and got our springs, biggest at 92 cm, 22 lbs, but definitely a bit more of a grind than the last couple of days. Had to get in tighter to find them today as well. Most caught in about 100 fow with one hatch coho and a couple of pinks kept to round out a batch for the smoker.

Beauty afternoon, hit Sandheads 3-6pm, bite came on around 4. Boxed a 21, 15, and 10 and a nice 8ish-lb hatch coho. Rookie buddy lost a real nice one at the boat… told him “it’s gonna take off again” and it did, he palmed it and broke at the swivel. Had to have been 25+.
Ended the night bombing across for an overnighter, and bonked a hog ling (38”) right at sunset.
