2025 OFFISHALL Vancouver- Howe Sound-Sechelt Fishing Reports Thread

I don’t even pop the clip when checking gear. Bring the rigger and rod up together. Sometimes even stop briefly every 15-20’ for a minute or two. Induces a bite reasonably often.
Then if your bait/lure is all good, you send er back down a bit quicker not having to reset the clip.

Are you guys that are doing this using 1106 downriggers or 2106 models? Or does it matter how fast the vertical retrieve is?

I used to hook up all the time doing this when I ran the 1106. Super fishy move. Now that I have the 2106s it never happens. I still think it’s a good move to leave it in… Gets your gear down faster if it’s clean

I do it with a 2106. You have to reel pretty fast though. Nice thing about this the way I have set up is if you see weed or a hit on anchovy and need to bring in boat the clip is right by my hand. No leaning over or gaff to get the clip. Certainly gives your lure more time in the water. Also think it’s easier on all your gear.

I leave another bead stopper at the 20 foot mark, which I would usually use for stacking rods, but when I’m fishing deep, it lets me catch up to the speed of a 2106 at the 20 foot mark.

Got out from around 630am to 130pm. Sandheads was a wild ride. With the tide moving it was kicking up 5-6 footers no problem.

Managed to scrape up 3 springs and 1 hatch coho. Had several wilds and no pinks. Got em shallow today. Around 40’ on the DR.

Got blown off SH around noon and popped by T10.. not a sniff. That place is dead to me.

Everything on anchovies. We eventually ran out of bait (pretty early) and ran white hootchies to no avail.

Sand Heads Sept 10th...

My Brother arrived last night from Montana and we were trying to fix the Bilge pump in the dark... but they sure don't make these boat easily accessible for maintenance. Found 2 blown fuses and seems an old zip tie got into the bilge and probably burnt the motor out. Bought two bilges that fit the old screen because good to have backup, keeps the boat floating.

Ditched the efforts at night since we saw the sketchy forecast for the morning and it looked like afternoon would be better, plus flood tide was late.

Got to the ramp around noon and headed out... guys were coming back and it was windy. Pounding a bit on the river on the way out. Once we hit the salt wasn't near as bad as yesterday when we got there around 1230.

Fishing was slow at first. Had a little flurry of action with the coho at 60/80 feet, white hootchie and bagged a beauty hatchery. Then it died. Trolled around to the north then out west, green can... then my buddy Dr. McCormack calls me and says he got a 20 pound on a spoon and lost a Canon ball. Said hootchies were dead like we were experiencing as well and switched to spoon with success. We switched to green/chrome spoons and didn't look back. The bite went nuclear. Constant hook ups the rest of the evening. Boxed 4 chinook, 3 hatchery coho and one shiny pink. Released many wild coho and smaller chinook.

What an amazing day and the wind died right down. Turned out to be an epic evening. There were a couple younger ladies on a large white boat out there by the green can just putting on an Absolute clinic! Saw they had a big fish as well probably 25lb. Good job ladies was entertaining to see. Depth of choice 60/80.

Hope this bite continues... so many fish out there.

Did a shift at T10 10-3 , 10-1 pm was pretty tough go but the misses stuck it out, kept telling her its supposed lay down like wavy gravy but no , had a few pink and that was it , only one tack line was fishable dead west or dead east. It was an adventure for sure

Fished the Bell 4 hours yesterday. A few Springs hit but wouldn’t come to our boat. Went south and got 2 nice Springs in an hour. We used every tool in the box and they’d take it all. Lumpy snotty conditions but workable. Todays gonna be awesome. 2 mph right now at SH according to reports. Also, boarded by DFO and guys were great.

Could anyone tell me how tomorrow will be for 18 ft boat at Sandheads. Forecasts seem all over the place. I did fine last week in 5-10 SE forecast. Still trying to figure this out.

TIA

Brad

I am new to Sandheads as well. I have only fished it for the past two years, I have a 16' boat. I look at Windy, Sporty App, and the Nav Canada weather and consider how the tide will interact with the current of the river. I had to turn around once last year coming down the river as it ended up worse than I thought. If the wind is against the tide it can stack up on you. I was pretty excited the first week of September was so calm, I will take smoky skies for the straight feeling like a lake and crushing fish.

There are a lot of guys with more experience than me on here so I would be interested in how they approach it.

Should be decent tomorrow…looks like the risk is in the afternoon. SE is a lot more manageable than the NW there. NW+river current/ebb creates standing waves, no bueno

edit- windy contradicting enviro can…still think it’s unlikely to be over 10

Checking out actual wave heights and wind speeds at the Georgia straight, Hali bank bouy and wind speed at SH post op is useful to building knowledge of what’s cool and not

Hi Guys

I am taking some coworkers out tomorrow. 3 of 4 have never fished salmon before. : )

I am boating out from Port Moody tomorrow, wondering how the fishing near is
North Arm or T10 areas. Or should I just head down to Sandheads right away.

Where can I find a map of the Closed Whale Zone near North Arm

Thanks

I would start from T10 as it's closer to your home base.
