You've obviously never had any cold water immersion training.does the life jacket keep you any warmer if you fall in
So good to have you back on this forum. Not only for the exotic food pics but mainly for being a voice of reason overall. You've obviously never had any cold water immersion training.
In no time at all after falling into winter temp water you will lose ALL control of your muscles and sink. You die from drowning from that, not from hypothermia. Comments here about being able to just swim without a life jacket in freezing cold water is absolutely laughable. With a life jacket at least you have a chance to survive and then hypothermia also kicks in. Not only all of that but immediate shock from going into freezing cold water can also kill you because your bodies first instinct is to gasp which lots of times causes a large amount of water to fill the lungs causing drowning. Older people and young children are very susceptible to this.
Also cardiac arrest and heart attacks happen from cold water immersion. Try surviving that without a life jacket.
I've taken a cold water immersion course as part of getting certs for guiding. I've also had two friends die from cold water immersion in our BC coastal waters.
Give your head a shake and do some research. Comments like yours are dangerous to people that just know the facts.
Thank you. Merry Christmas to you and your loved ones as well.So good to have you back on this forum. Not only for the exotic food pics but mainly for being a voice of reason overall.

Yes. It does.does the life jacket keep you any warmer if you fall in
Been trained. Part of my job. Swiftwater rescue. Ice rescue on rivers. Wilderness first aid and survival. All that stuff. My advice. And you don't have to take it, is wear your PFD. But I suggest that the advice is good and solid. Find a comfortable PFD and wear it.You've obviously never had any cold water immersion training.

The seal in Tunstall ain’t scared of ****. He usually has tossed your gear and eaten the fish in less than a minute. There is no time to do anything but hold on, but a least he’s kind enough to give your gear beck, probably because he knows there will be more fish from it.Not sure if anyone has mentioned this technique for seals, but it was explained to me by a guide many moons ago, and I have used it with a lot of success since. Should a seal grab your salmon, pick up all your gear (cannon balls, lines in the water etc..), start the main and literally get on top of the seal, keeping the line tight, and follow him till he has to come up for air (at most 5 mins). On his way up crank the line and keep it tight, they let go of the fish once near the surface and see the boat. Have the net ready! More often than not, the boat scares him enough that once he gets his air, he takes off and leaves the fish, often too tired to engage again. At the very least, you always get your gear back. Hope this helps, Merry Christmas to all.
I tried, but I inadvertently started the lifejacket debateHere's hoping that we can end the 2025 Vancouver reports thread with a fish pic or two!I know the forecast is for chilly conditions over the next few days, so if you head out, stay safe and warm and may the fish God's reward your efforts! Merry Christmas everyone!

I'm trying to get the family out but the little one just puked all over the house. Might get out for a quickie harbor tour still.Anyone fishing tomorrow? I’m planning to go fight off some seals myself, see y’all out there,
Nice, looking to pass some seals off to someone, come say hi….I'm trying to get the family out but the little one just puked all over the house. Might get out for a quickie harbor tour still.
Which rod holder? The sound was nasty this morning, seams like the wind never died down, ended up fishing the nursery, decent action with pockets of bait and fish here and there, fish are getting bigger but couldn’t find any keepers, released half a dozen between 58-60cm, and too many to count smaller ones. First time I broken my rod holder on my Scotty downrigger, almost lost my rod!
Ended up going for a prawn and crab session. Couldn't get the rods down with 4 kids onboard. The sound was ugly and made prawning less relaxing. But still got about 250 in 4 traps in an hour and a half. Crab was junk, managed a few barely keepers in 4 traps. Nice day on the water with my brother's family, and just finished up a seafood feast dinner. Really can't complain.Nice, looking to pass some seals off to someone, come say hi….
