tried grace for a couple hours this morning and had a few close to legals and then hit tunstal for tide change . Lots of small fish around. Had 12 prawns on a 4 hour soak and all small crabs in my one trap. Conditions were great and beats working any day .

Lots of small fish around the Bell today. But we managed to land one beautiful 77cm red chinook in the mix. Empty stomach so wondered if it was a late spawner. Had the iridescent purple winter chinook colours though. 125 feet skinny G.
Couple undersized crabs, ended with a humpback show on the way back. Calm seas, sunny skies. Doesn’t get much better.

Fished grace from the tide change to sunset.
Steady bite the entire time, Released a bunch of 55ish at the side of the boat, lost a legal trying to hand line it into the boat, line snapped, fish hit the gunnel, bounced out the side and swam away. Lots of bait and marked lots deeper 240 plus. Couldn’t hit bottem where I wanted too, not enough line on my riggers, going to re spool with 400 feet tomorrow!! Prawning sucked, one tangled set and 7 in the other. Beautiful day.

Reproductive organs? Large and its a unicorn extremely late spawning red. Non-existent to very small and its a very large winter likely to spawn next spring / summer.

Speaking of tournaments, I saw a poster for one recently where the fish have to be gutted and gills must be removed but the head, tail and all fins have to be on when they get weighed. Is that to stop any possible cheating by adding weight inside the fish? What other reason could there be?
To keep the fish edible?

Got out today, water was nice, a little more rain than I expected but that’s winter fishing. Tried a few usual spots, got into a couple unders at each spot, finally got into some decent ones near end of day at the Bell. Lost 2 to seals! One was a 15min battle, got him within 10’ of the boat then the seal won… reeled in a half head that looked like a keeper. Lost another decent maybe keeper when it jumped 50’ back and got himself free. Couldn’t boat one. Got my limit of crab and prawn tho.

Horrific news but the Chilliwack has her own run and hatchery enhancement. Though the way its trending changes need to be made.

I’m no expert but isn’t the Fraser stuff for the interior/Thompson steelhead? Winter run Vedder is a different animal.

Somebody should report these seals to the DFO. They are taking more than their daily limit and killing undersized fish.
