2025 Bamfield and Barkley Sound Reports

Love reading these reports. Heading up there Thursday thru Monday this week. We will be in a maroon, grey canvased Boulton. What are the "go"/"No Go" conditions for a run offshore to the Rats Nose? Is it mainly a matter of forecasted wind?
Looking forward to posting a great report at the end of our trip.
Mainly based off the forecasted wind. I would be watching the La Perouse Bouy mainly the wave periods. Anything below 8 seconds is usually my cut off depending on the wave height and the forecast.

Knowing your boat/captaining capabilities and comfort level being offshore is most important though. Its a long ways from the shoreline.

Very slow inside the sound right now. Water like a sewage lagoon. A few hits around Beale, that's it. If you can make it 20 miles offshore you'll fill your ticket. But conditions were rough today. Hoping for better conditions tomorrow!
You wonder how far down that bloom goes🤔 and if the fish are there and not feeding or still to come

Well I haven’t been pounding the water as this trip for us is a family vacation but I did pick up a few fish this morning. I Started just outside of Beale and picked up two on hootchies this morning. I came back to the lodge as my boys were itching to hit the water as they’re done fishing off the docks but picked up one “21 pounder” at Sanford which my son reeled in at 40 feet and we lost another on a anchovy at 60 feet. We only did a few tacks until my kids start asking to go jig for some salmon.

So, overall from what I’ve seen in the day and a half that I’ve been here is that the fishing is definitely slower on the inside but they’re around.

Just back from spending the weekend out in the sound and i’ll echo, it seems slow and very hit and miss. I don’t have the boat to make the conditions this weekend much fun to try on the outside areas, so we mostly tried the (somewhat) more protected spots and it was pretty slow for us. Talked to some locals who said it’s been really spotty since the bloom, unless you get outside.

Sent my buddy home with some fish for the freezer, but not the two day limit we were hoping for. I’ll be back when i hear things have cleared up.

I did the everything but a Spring package for friends. We fished Saturday at Beale and offshore a bit and managed some nice Lings small halibut and coho. But the one spring we had slipped off near the net. 6 hour day and that was enough. Did a few hours solo Sunday and took a couple coho. Good variety good fun. That’s fishing.

When we hammered the springs at Wya last Monday the water was green and we were running the balls at 45ft. Clouds of bait which was why I imagine the springs were there, the next day very little bait showing and no fish. Weird year, we were out at the rats nose fishing clean water then moved to the tip of the nose and water looked like a mud puddle.Had 2 blockbuster days out there bucktailing for coho

Hmm, not good news as we are headed up for 5 days starting Aug. 8.

What is it like by Beale, Pachena Bay, on the outside by the mouth of the sound, by 7 mile bank and the Rats Nose, etc.?

Arrived on Saturday. Algae is still inside. Fished Monday and very quiet. Decided to go out to fishing hwy, easy limit. Fished inside due to wind and rain only for a couple of hours, only 2 shakers. Will be fishing until Saturday, let’s hope fish move inside before then so my next post will be more promising.

How far out, 7 mile or all the way to Rat's Nose?

Was out at the Rat Nose last weekend-lots of bottom fish and coho.
Didn't touch any decent springs. So for those of you who did, were you on the bottom or up a bit?
Based on the reports here contemplating going out again this weekend unless it picks up inshore.
