2025 Bamfield and Barkley Sound Reports

Shoot...
Are we talking about the barge they drive the tanker truck onto at the ramp in Grappler inlet?
I saw it on the water only 10 days ago, it went to eagle nook and back my last day there.
that is the new method unfortunately.

Just back from a 3 day Bamfield trip. Seems like the fish were being found on the edge of the sound - Austin, Creek, Hammond, Beale rather than into the inlet where the green algae bloom continues. We managed limits on Chinook and Coho although we had to wade through a ridiculous number of wild Coho to find hatchery. 21 and 19 pounds were the biggest Springs into our boat. Bait was very small so small spoons and hootchies were most productive although the bigger fish hit medium size spoons (green/white AP anchovy spoon). Springs were deep and most caught between 70 and 100 feet. Lots of undersized Springs too.

Offshore was also productive and offshore weather was cooperative. Lots of sablefish and halibut out there. Trolling deep on the Rat's Nose for salmon was also productive. Absolutely thick with Coho but also some nice Springs. Larger spoons and fishing deep (160 -220) were the ticket.

Sablefish at the Rat's Nose or somewhere else? How deep?

How’s the fuel situation in bamfield, is getting gas still a concern or problem? Any recent fishing updates?

local fish are showing up!! 36lber at the dock the other day. early mornings on the bait show has started. outside edges and 1/2 mile out from shore are working too later in the morning until mid day. coho time!!

You're right about staff being a pain. I went one day and nobody was around. Phoned first before going second time and somebody was at least working that day.
13 cents a litre cheaper than McKay Bay.
2.16 vs 2.29 per litre

Just got back. Best fishing for us was out past Beale with anchovies. Plugs got us a few as well.
No monsters but lots in the mid to high teens.
Had great weather.
That's great to hear! We're heading up on Saturday with the family and just wonder what's the water clarity out that way, as looking at the webcams in Bamfield it seems like the algae bloom is still around?

So sockeye is over, need to go out to the sound. I’ve heard that skinny spoons, white hootchies, and anchovies are working here or there. Has anything settled in? What has been working lately?

I just got back from Bamfield yesterday. We had six days. The first three days were very productive, first full day we went to Pachena and had our limits by 6:45 am which might be a personal best. Next day we went to Effingham got a couple, decided to pull up and hit Beale. 45 minutes after arriving filled the kids and wife's license. The next day we went up to China creek for Sockeye, it was very slow for us, waste of time. Came back, and got a couple fish but things definitely slowed down. Fourth day we took the kids out to Fleming, my son got a nice 15lb chinook the other boats kids got 3 at Fleming. From then on it got rough and slow which made it hard to get the family out. We roughed it out and fill our licenses, but nowhere near the productivity as it was the few days before. Take advantage of the outer spots when the weather allows, the inside spots have terrible water clarity currently.
First three days the mornings were very sunny and I had luck on the new peetz chrome and blue spoon on the blue mirror flasher. The last three days the westcoast version of the no bananas wee g on chartreuse flasher was our best producer. We tried anchovies, plugs, hoochies, bait busters, brads baits, and various spoons.
Bamfield is such a great place to fish, so beautiful and I cant wait until next season.

Love reading these reports. Heading up there Thursday thru Monday this week. We will be in a maroon, grey canvased Boulton. What are the "go"/"No Go" conditions for a run offshore to the Rats Nose? Is it mainly a matter of forecasted wind?
Looking forward to posting a great report at the end of our trip.
