2024 Port Alberni and Alberni Inlet Reports

On average when does the Sockeye season usually end.
Depends on the run and the escapement numbers but they often close the fishery around the later part of July. I think last year it was maybe the 23rd, a couple years ago they didn't close it at all.

In terms of the fishing, it’s been good (was out friday-monday) and there’s still a fair amount of the forecasted run left to come in, but have seen at least one post saying the bite has slowed this week. With this hot weather they won’t be pulsing up the river in big numbers, so there should be lots schooling. Taking my brothers out Saturday so hopefully can get them on a few to take home.

I heard the fishing/catching has slowed down around China Creek. Anyone been out?
I was there Friday to Monday this past weekend. Reports posted above. But yeah, Sunday morning was best for us and Monday morning was much slower in comparison. Even though we didn't really change anything. Missed a few, didn't see as many landed. Coulda just been bad luck.

My son and I were out Friday am. We only kept 5, tossed back a couple small ones, and lost 3-4. Had about 8-10 soft bites that never stuck.
Fished underwood and over to the slide. Never got a bite above 55’ and most fish were hit at 70-85’. Many other guys saying same about depth and many boats had limits. Fish were all fresh looking.

Yup, we were getting most at about 100’. Started at 60-70 early, then dropped down.

Tough fishing for us today. Started at Lonetree based on yesterday’s cleaning table talk. Nothing then blew to the slide and landed one at 8. Nothing again until 10 at 100’.
Some other fish being seen caught but definitely slower than yesterday.
Only got 3 today.

I wasn't there today, but my cousin and crew had 12 in the boat by 9:30. All at 65-75 ft.
