New Years fish today 11:30-3 off Esq. Started slow with some big swells and no action then bite came on at 1:30 and some good fights were had. Tug going by gave his horn a toot as my buddy was reeling one in. The swells went down as the ridge of clouds got closer But ran outa daylight, only a couple crabs from 2 traps.
nice fish

That was a great start Jan 2/23 to a fun year of fishing.Pinks, Coho man I released a lot of salmon this year, never got my Hali or Ling Cod which I’m ticked about. Decent crab year. Thanks for the throw back. Let’s hope for a couple more nice days of fun in the sun.

Got out Monday aft 11:30-4 with a couple buds off Esq. Got a nice one in the first 5 mins then had to work for a second one but it was a nice sunny day and a bit calmer on the Esq. Harbour side. Crab traps were loaded so 9 keepers even though we had 3 licenses. My buds all went home with fresh seafood for their families, I kept a crab for my dinner.
had to do a sharp turn to the port to miss some kelp and my prop guard didn’t do its job 😪 had to say goodbye to my lucky green ******* setup But the cannon ball was spared.

Out in Oak Bay, Gap area. Not much around first thing but around 10:00 things started to warm up a little. Ended up with a 68 cm in the tub, released another about the same. and four smaller chinooks. Looked like the few other boats were doing about the same.

Also yarded up a good sized ling just to say hello. Crabbing was good.

Herring aid Looney spoon was the winner today.

I went to the flats in the early am and was rewarded with calm seas. My friend took home a 5 lb hatchery spring after 6 or 7 undersized fish.
Two very small...........
I went out yesterday too beautiful day I was late getting on the water so probably only had an hour and a half on the flats just one 44 cm that might have become breakfast if he was 1 cm bigger having too much room on my license. Got one nice duny in a short soak at willows

Was out on Constance this morning early and stayed for 4 hours. A few just undersize and a bunch of tiny springs that weren't much bigger than the Skinny G's. Beautiful flat day but no bait showing and no keepers. Fished my usual spot for a couple hours during the change then did an entire loop of the bank looking for some bait...nothing.

It's always good to hear fishing reports........good or bad

Out off Oak Bay today. My boat tried to leave the launch without me. Fortunately the only consequence was a couple of wet feet. Trolled the Gap area with a couple of other boats. Pretty slow. Released two, one about 20" and another maybe 5lbs. Both clipped. Two other strikes. Can never go wrong with a "No Banana's" Skinny G out there.
Couple of nice crabs amongst a dozen smalls or too softs.

Got out Monday 11-3 off esq. Was very slow with only a few shakers. Dropped 2 crab traps but only one was there and the other nowhere to be seen. I’m hoping these big tides have my floats (two bullets in-line) under water as the trap was weighted. It’s off the sax point area in 100ft of water. If you see it let me know,I went with some binoculars from shore today but no sign. Couple nice crabs in the trap we pulled.

Saw a double bullet float on the west side of Trial island near the lighthouse on Monday afternoon around 2 in the kelp.was flooding pretty heavy so it is possible.
There is also a red float trapped in the kelp on the east side of Clover. It has been there for a couple of weeks.

Sorry not a fishing report but this happend in the dark of the night. I think they moved 3 buildings onto one barge.

Yep 2 of them are headed to Metchosin I believe

It would have been cool to see the whole process of getting the barge in and up on the beach and each house on the barge.

I bet the neighbors directly above the beach where slightly upset for the night though

Oak Bay, Gap area today from noon until 3:00. Not a bite! Lots of Cormorants and other diving birds around. Cool watching them check out my gear 90' down on the sounder. Fog didn't roll in until later, as did all the floating debris.

Son in law fished flats for couple of hours on friday. Landed a 8 lb spring at 65 feet on the way in. Otherwise no other bites for a 3 hour trip.

Launched 9am dropped traps and trolled my fav tach across esq to the green can. We then moved over towards Esq lagoon 100ft and got into a few but pretty slow ,we switched up spoons but nothing was getting anything legal. Switched up to a hootchie around noon got a keeper then missed a better hit. Buddy digs through his gear and finds a hootchie (turd or peanut butter?) sends it down and before he sits down he’s on. I get a barely legal and it’s bleeding and a bad eye so kept that one for dinner, buddy sends his back down and we speed up a bit and BOOM! 86 cm white male with an empty stomach. what a great day we even had a bit of sun. 1 trap empty the other had a few keepers. Many hi fives were had. Rolled up at 3pm
