2017 OFFISHALL Vancouver-Howe Sound-Sechelt Reports Thread

Yup, and DFO even claims it, yet the natives continue to use the drift nets, saw it myself again the other day, several boats. Then the sale of fresh BC Sickeye out of coolers. How truly sad, the Keepers of the land raping it for all its worth, and the idiot whities buying it! Government and DFO have Zero back bone. Pathetic! Take it while ya can, your soon to be completely closed off, except for a chosen group, that will sell it back to you.

Well at least the media finally carried a story on the FN and DFO called them out specifically. Also good to see they confiscated 25 sockeye nets from the FN. It's a small start.

Confiscating nets but no charges. They need to wake up. They are wasting their time busting guys using barbs when you have nets across the river up stream. They are pathetic

Blame the court system and the judges. It's not worth it to even charge them

A fine does not stop the barbed hooks. Take all there gear. Hard to put the barbed hooks back out if they have no gear. I would think if they got caught a 2nd or 3rd time they would take the gear.

Perhaps if they didn't catch so many guys fishing with Barb's they would focus their efforts on the nets.
Yeah makes sense. Better make sure that those guys hooking up with 3 fish a day out front aren't using barbs. Then if they have some time left deal with the guys up river that are illegally harvesting hundreds of fish an hour. Its unfortunate that some sport fishermen choose to fish illegally but using barbs and fishing out of bounds pales in comparison to gill nets. But hey...whatever they are doing, it sure seems to be working

How else to allow farm fishing, when the runs are decimated then all those fish farms can't hurt them.

The Columbia river runs were saved by the first nations agreeing to NOT fish commercially, I mean, so much for food. AND the government actually hiring real scientists to make recommendations and listening to share holders. The come back took only 4 years.

Up here they are just a bunch of corrupt politicians taking kicks backs in the form of "political donations" or paid to talk at dinners. They don't listen to even their own scientists unless they give the correct answers.

If they can shut down the cod fishery and pay all those people not to fish, why not here?

I saw no less than 7 seiners on the river yesterday just driving across a bridge, didn't even have to look hard.

Limited out at sandheads yesterday by 2:00, 4 fish. All whites, 15lb average. Lost a nice one to a seal and a couple spat the hook. Lots of shakers and small ones too. Fish were all over the place. Environment Canada couldn't have been more wrong about the forecast. Only 12 boats out when we went in.
